Learn from a Hitter Who Hit .328 with 22 HR in the SEC
1. Gathers down and back without getting stuck back
2. Loads forward and downhill without getting jumpy forward
3. Initiates his launch move behind the ball like great hitters do
I use his swing with many hitters I work with and evaluate.
Most hitters need a very similar load pattern
Also notice, how he stays down hill with his head and front side as he gathers and strides, doesn't work uphill
This allows him to stay consistent, on the ball and quick reactionary.
> Save this for when you need it
> Send it to a hitter who needs it

Why do you insist on blaming one conference when it is merely the one the speaking coach belongs to. The format is actually a bit more relaxed now than when it was 2-3-2, pushing the If Necessary game to Monday.
I like and respect Butch a lot, he’s turned college graduates into MLB pitchers, but I’m not clear what it is he seeks? Is it single elimination, smaller brackets, what?
When you have to trim fields from 64 to 8 in two weekends, how is that mathematically accomplished? A four-team bracket is still the most practical and competitive.
I believe Skip Bertman wanted to reverse the two and four team phases, to clear all the obligatory bids first and wind up with the best 32, plus 32 teams then get to host first round. That might put some analysts out of work…
It’s been said that people whose only objection or opposition to something is to label it dumb or stupid have just applied it to themselves as well. You feel no need to elaborate with anything else that might logically support that contention? You’re entitled to your opinion, but if it’s borne of your personal dissatisfaction only, maybe not enough weight to carry it very far.
@nextlevelbb I believe they once seeded the teams once they got to Omaha and within each regional, but of course, as soon as they seeded the whole field, this kind of talk began. Original thoughts no more.
@davidzedelstein@partyberm7 Is the restriction of the games or during the games? SEC has similar policy in Hoover, especially postgame, which many of us record during the season. I’m guessing ESPN demands exclusivity on live action.
@claymichael16@HailState4U That does remind me to call Pheba Police Department and see if anyone saw a high speed UFO crash over the weekend. The map shows 16 miles, but as the baseball flies, I’ll bet Woodson’s homer was more like 12-13.
It was an anonymous vote of combined media. To be honest, both were deserving, but obviously everyone voted for Blaze, and his stats were impressive on the info sheet.
In his first season at Mississippi State, has Head Coach Brian O' Connor fallen short of expectations, met expectations, or exceeded expectations? It probably depends on who you asked and when you asked.
It was a season with some ups and downs, such as a first time in program history to be swept three games two straight weekends, a factoid trumpeted both far and wide by click-seekers and muck-rakers who sometimes went as far as questioning his worth or even hiring. (It was revealed Coach Ron Polk himself informed Oak of this, perhaps in a more discreet and tactful way) When the usual loudmouths disparaged the chances for hosting a regional and touted other favorites, on which side of the argument would they fall?
And in the exceeding department, perhaps go to the other side of the pendulum swing and look to find any who were so confident they made Omaha plans after early sweeps over Vanderbilt at home and Ole Miss in Oxford and may have been willing to wait in Kansas City for the maroon caravan to catch up.
And then those who've seen enough college baseball to know seasons can turn on a dime faster than a double play, know the man's track record, and get familiar with how hard a game it is to sustain for any length of time, especially in this day and age where dynasties erode quickly from NIL and transfers.
If you don't believe that, take a look at the stunning results from the first round of regionals, favorites and can't-misses falling like flies in the heat. True, a lot of favorites are moving on, but a lot of them are already sending players to The Cape or wherever they will spend the summer playing ball.
Coach Oak took and responded to a question about dividing attention between this year's team and next year's, and he responded in the way you'd expect from someone who's done this a time or two and who also has a pretty pretty good track record at it too.
The 2026 season has now boiled down to the next 2-3 games. And as O' Connor said, the team is not content to be seen as just another upper-half SEC, Top 16 host, or satisfied with a regional title, they want more. Whether they push further up the ladder and deeper into the season remains to be seen. But, you'd be a lot more inclined to see that in the middle category now than at points earlier in the season.

Sometimes, a coach loses a game, much less a regional final, and they're ready to hit the showers, hit the road, and not talk much.
It was refreshing to see Louisiana's Head Coach Matt Deggs, who'd just lost 19-5 to Mississippi State, after playing in mid 90s temps earlier in the afternoon just to get the opportunity, willing to talk about the game, his team, and even his expectations for next year.
If you're fans of Mississippi State and its Head Coach Brian O' Connor, he will remind you of the same candor, plain-spoken-but-well-spoken type of coach who has both affection for his players but expectations of what he asks and demands of them.
This is a coach whose team survived multiple elimination games at the Sun Belt tournament, played at all hours and even multiple locations last week, winding up in the championship game. And when offered a chance to deflect the lopsided score with the drain his team might have faced having only a short while after gutting out a win over 2-seed Cincinnati 8-6, he said his team wasn't tired, though. They just ran out of pitching.
And, his analogy that "they were going to have to kill us, and they did" was a tip of the cap to his opponent, whom he deemed worthy of a long run in Omaha.
Anyway, let's let Coach Deggs say that, and so much more, in his own words. Write it down now, they look like a team to watch in the Sun Belt for 2027.

What a year it's been, huh? And it ain't over yet! We've got a lot more to play for, a freshman home run record (sorry, Raffy) and oh yeah, a little trip to Omaha.
I've never been to the MCWS without MSU being there, and I hope this year the honor of being part of the coverage team for @CollegeBaseCNT isn't the first time that happens.
It's late, we have less than an hour to let our MSU folks get some sleep, and I've a drive home too. So, look for the post-game coverage, which I often enjoy as much or more than the game, in the morning, folks.
Good night from Dudy Noble Field, how about them maroon and white Bulldogs, and Hail State! And one more thing, we have the best baseball moms anywhere too!
