Steven Spielberg mourns "Jurassic Park" star Sam Neill:
"I owe a debt of gratitude to Roger Donaldson, Gilliam Armstrong, Graham Baker and Phillip Noyce for casting Sam Neill in the roles in which he was so brilliant that brought him to my attention and led to his playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park. Sam was exceptionally collaborative. It was a stretch for him to play a character who acted as though children were messy and smelly because this was the opposite of the loving father he was to his children. I adored making all the Jurassic movies with him. Along with Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, we will always have our Jurassic family and Sam will never be forgotten by us or his many millions of fans around the world."

We're greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Sam Neill. We salute this incredibly talented actor who brought so much heart to the beloved paleontologist, Dr. Alan Grant.
You will forever be in our hearts. ❤️
Sam - you were more than just a lovely actor to work with - refined, thoughtful, a skill second to none - you were a mentor, protector, and above all, friend. Thank you for making our scenes together feel so real. I will be forever grateful to have been on this journey with you.
Laura Dern pays tribute to Sam Neill.
Dern, who starred as Dr. Ellie Sattler opposite Neill’s Dr. Grant in 'Jurassic Park,' paid tribute to “my beloved lifetime friend…” in a statement to Deadline. “He showed me the depths of loyalty, protectiveness and love always with the driest of wit. He was a true and noble gentleman, wrapped up in my dream leading man. I will love you forever, Dr. Alan Grant.”

Over 30 years ago, Sam Neill walked with dinosaurs. All of us watching Jurassic Park that summer of 1993 were as stunned as Neill’s Dr. Allen Grant to see those ancient creatures imbued with life on screen. The performances from Neill and his castmates helped ILM’s visual effects feel grounded and believable.
Today we lost actor, environmentalist, and atheist Sam Neill. Thank you, Sam, for inspiring a generation through your on-screen roles and social leadership alike.
