Today marked my final session as an Ohio State Senator. While I am sad it's come to an end, I reflect fondly on my 57-year career in public service. I've always strived to improve the lives of others, and I find solace in knowing that I gave my all to the people of Lucas County.
Today was bittersweet as I delivered my farewell speech in the presence of family, friends, and colleagues. It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Ohio's 11th Senate District.
Ms. Al-Hayani challenges her students to not only become the best scholars they can be, but to also exercise civic responsibility so that they may grow into informed and engaged citizens. She is not just a teacher but a role model in every regard.

Today, we celebrate working people and unions in America and the progress they have achieved, fighting for labor rights and better working conditions. From every member of our caucus, happy Labor Day!

Ohio workers and retirees deserve to keep the pensions they earned and @OhioSenateDems stand with them.
That's why we intro'd a resolution in support of a solution to this ongoing pension crisis, @SenSherrodBrown's Butch Lewis Act. https://t.co/JGxuBOWy9l
For decades, workers contribute to their pensions with the expectation that their hard-earned dollars will be there for them in retirement. The current crisis jeopardizes workers’ ability to retire with dignity. And, if it isn’t addressed quickly, the results will be devastating. https://t.co/zroAvS2NHx
As thousands of workers and retirees are set to rally in Columbus, Ohio Senate Democrats reiterate their support of efforts to save union pensions.

Ohio Senate Democrats stand strong with our #Union brothers and sisters. Unions provide a pathway to the middle class and advocate for equal opportunities for all. Today's Janus decision is a major blow to working people, but we stand ready to defend the voices of Ohioans.
As a former AFSCME Local 7 member, I know firsthand that unions provide essential safeguards for workers. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court’s decision weakens unions, weakens workers’ voices and weakens the middle class in America. https://t.co/VWag2kfMt9
This issue came to my attention when a homeowner in my district unknowingly had property taxes diverted to pay on a 20-year-old delinquent water bill from a previous owner. This bill will help us protect homeowners, improve government efficiency and it’s the right thing to do. https://t.co/zwzYot9Jxj
