It is a little past 3 a.m., and we just voted on a nearly $56 billion budget that includes more than $800 million in new taxes, fees, and revenue enhancements and sweeps $150 million of sales tax funds generated by fuel. Here are my immediate thoughts.

It's official. The currently filed budget sweeps $150M in “surplus” sales tax revenue created by higher gas prices to fund special interest programs. IL already has some of the highest tax burdens in the nation, yet Democrats continues searching for new ways to spend.

When families pay more, the state collects more. And instead of providing relief, the Majority Party looks for another way to spend the money.

Just finished a budget press conference. While we haven't seen an official budget just yet, there are plenty of rumors about what could be in it, including Democrats potentially sweeping surplus sales tax revenue on gas for special interests.

The Senate just voted on a “Clean Up” bill for the highly controversial transit bill from Veto Session.
I think Senator Arellano said it all in his Floor speech… This bill does nothing to replenish the $500 million that was taken from downstate Illinois’ Road Fund.

I am focused on ensuring that any legislation that passes doesn’t go down the same path as the state siting rules for wind and solar, which now force development despite major local opposition. We also need strong guardrails to protect natural resources and local communities.
Before we started session today, I stopped to talk about one of the hottest topics in our state: data centers. Essentially, everyone has some level of concern about this important issue.

"As artificial intelligence continues to evolve rapidly, lawmakers cannot afford to wait until problems arise before having conversations about accountability, transparency, and public safety.
“I am proud to be a chief cosponsor of this bipartisan legislation, and I appreciate the hard work that @SenEdlyAllen put into improving the bill throughout the legislative process.
As a founding member of the Caucus, I’m excited to help lead efforts to strengthen our energy grid and keep Illinois at the forefront of nuclear energy development.
A special thank you to @ConstellationEG for hosting this inaugural event.

Last week, I was proud to help host the very first Illinois Nuclear Caucus reception, bringing together lawmakers, industry leaders, and advocates to continue important conversations about the future of reliable and affordable energy in Illinois.
Today, we gathered in Yorkville to honor the brave men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage & service will never be forgotten. Thank you to the Yorkville American Legion & everyone who helped make today’s Memorial Day ceremony so meaningful. 🇺🇸

For years, I have been working to protect our children in this new digital age through my Safe Screens, Healthy Minds initiative, and passing Senate Bill 315 into law would be an important step in the right direction.

Great meeting with @SenEdlyAllen and Steve Wimmer with the Transparency Coalition this morning as we work to get SB 315 across the line.
Senator Edly-Allen’s legislation, which I’m chief cosponsoring, would create the Artificial Intelligence Safety Measures Act.
This Act would require developers to maintain and publish AI safety frameworks addressing catastrophic risk mitigation, cybersecurity, governance, audits, and internal use safeguards.
