My wife was about to be wheeled into the theatre at 4PM. It was obvious the baby wasn't coming naturally and they needed to operate. The technical staff asked them to take her back because there was no diesel to run the generator.
Thank God for Prof Sanya. He ordered them to go and put on the generator, that he would buy diesel. He took two 25 litre jerrycans and went to buy diesel. She was wheeled in and the baby brought out, already in distress.
That generator never went off that night. It stayed on the whole night. The diesel they had Prof buy was not used. Not for my wife and son, at least. It was for their own purpose.

My cousin has been in Canada for six years.
Every month, money lands in my aunt's account.
School fees, house rent, his younger ones' upkeep.
Everybody calls him the family's blessing.
He called last Christmas.
Laughing and asking about everyone.
He sounded fine.
I asked: "How are you doing over there?"
He said: "I'm managing. Canada is good o."
He visited two years ago. We killed a goat.
The whole family came out.
He was smiling in every photo.
Nobody noticed he had lost weight.
I noticed. But I didn't say anything.
I thought maybe it was the cold.
Last month, his friend called my aunt.
Said my cousin had not been eating well.
That some months he sends everything and keeps nothing.
That he cries sometimes. Alone at night.
That he had been doing this for years.
My aunt was quiet for a long time.
Then she said:
"But he never said anything."
...
Well, he never said anything.
Because nobody ever asked beyond "how is Canada?"
A police officer stopped a young man's car and, upon checking it, realized that his driving license had expired.
The police officer asked him why he was driving with an expired license.
He answered:
«They just fired me from my job, and the money I have is only enough for me to eat, pay rent, and my bills. I am from another state and I have come here to study at university. Plus, I have a job interview».
The police officer had the option of applying the law and prohibiting the young man from driving his car, but he decided to listen to his heart.
He parked his police vehicle, helped him tie his tie, got into the young man's car and accompanied him to the interview location.
They entered together. The #police officer apologized and explained the reason for the young man's delay. They hired him!
The young man got the job and obtained a temporary driving license until he raised enough money to renew his license.
That's humanity!

But here is what got me most. Through all of it, he was already on to the next thing. Talking about Africa. Talking about legacy. Talking about hiring the best and still studying every layer of the work himself. And his memory. The man forgets nothing. Not the small things. Not the quiet acts of kindness. Not the people who showed up for him before anyone was watching.
Someone in the room was surprised he knew who I was. He turned to them and reeled out my career history. That made my week.
When it was over, the room surrounded him. Ministers, delegates, people who had crossed oceans to be in that building. One minister said it for everyone. We are all here to see Aliko Dangote.
Later that evening, Time named him one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world.
Nobody was having a better week. And he carried all of it like it was just another Tuesday.
As Nigerians we move fast, we dream big, we normalise the extraordinary. But the rest of the world stops and stares. That day I watched them stare and I felt something I could not put into words.
The room did not just react. It erupted. I was standing there behind my lens and I could not believe what I was watching.
I remember thinking recently, next time KSA sees him, it will be Seriki Oil.
That same light came alive in me last week when he walked into World Bank President Ajay Banga’s office, then the IFC with its MD Makhtar Diop, and then got announced as the surprise keynote for Water Forward.
Seriki Oil is Next
The first time I documented Alhaji @aliko_dangotegcon , we were in Oyo State.
It was a party. The King Sunny Ade was on the mic. The moment Alhaji walked in, KSA stopped everything and called him out the way only KSA can. Alikooooooooo Dangooooo. Alhaji Dangoteee. Seriki Magaida. Seriki Macaroni. Serikkkin Suggggar. Seriki Spaghetti.
I had the distinct honour of visiting Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Indimi man I’ve long admired. A true African icon: astute, humble, and one of the most honest businessmen our continent has produced. May his legacy continue to inspire generations 💼 ...F.Ote $

Hope isn’t blind optimism — it arises in the face of uncertainty. If you look at our history, we’ve gone through some rough patches. But we tend to come out on the other side of them stronger than before.
Happy Birthday, Daddy!
My father, I’m privileged to have a father like you.
Thank you for your sacrifices, and your wisdom!
I pray that the Lord will renew your strength, uphold you, and take you into greater dimensions of impact.
I love you, sir.
Happy Birthday, Daddy.
