Uganda is mourning the passing of King Oyo, who died on 27 August 2026.

Crowned King at just three years old in 1995, King Oyo became the world’s youngest reigning monarch and went on to lead the Tooro Kingdom for 31 years.

He was also a proud Arsenal supporter, making his passing especially painful for the Ugandan Gunners. ❤️🤍

We have been informed that King Oyo had donated land for a school where registered Ugandan Arsenal fans would have been able to send their children for free education. Sadly, the project had not yet commenced before his passing.

We mourn with the Ugandan Arsenal community and all those grieving his loss.

This story has made me marvel at the kindness and empathy of this man Barnabas Taremwa. He even went up to Rwanda to plead not only for his friend’s children but for all the people that could have ended in prison wrongly due to elements of impunity in the system. This is what he says about the herdsmen that were abducted by the military in 2022, “Meanwhile, my phone was ringing nonstop. The wives, children and relatives of the two men were desperate and completely overwhelmed. Their hopelessness was visible in their homes. They did not know where their loved ones were, why they had been taken, or whether they would ever return.” Mr. Taremwa, imagine how the anguish and desperation the 83 year old Mother of Sam Mugumya has gone through for a year! Imagine what the parents of Christoper Gody or 19 year old William Baliza, and many others, are going through. Could you please plead for them too🙏🏽🙏🏽 #SaveSamMugumya

Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi is our Party's Deputy President for Buganda Region. He is an immediate former Member of Parliament, having lost his seat to unprecedented rigging. He is a distinguished leader and economist.

On the night following the election, his home was attacked by the military, who shot and killed 10 people in his compound. Instead of arresting the criminals who killed our people, the regime instead arrested Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi and a team of his campaigners in January, and charged them with terrorism. They've all been in detention until the 9th of this month when the High Court granted them bail.

But Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi enjoyed his freedom only for a few hours. On 10th July, he was stopped at a police checkpoint and violently abducted by non-uniformed, heavily armed men moving in a drone. He was driven at breakneck speed to an unknown destination. For 13 days now, no body knows where Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi is. No body knows whether he is dead or alive. If he is alive, no body knows the state of his health. What we've heard is that he was subjected to severe torture.

I urge all citizens and the friends of Uganda to loudly and boldly ask Museveni and his criminal son this question: WHERE IS MUWANGA KIVUMBI? This runaway criminality must be REJECTED, RESISTED AND FOUGHT.

🚨🇦🇷🇪🇬 Rio Ferdinand: “Football Needs Fairness, Not Different Rules For Different Teams”

🗣️ “I’ve sat here and watched football for many years, both as a player and as a pundit, and what frustrates supporters the most is inconsistency.

When Argentina go down under a challenge, the whistle seems to come immediately. The officials are quick to spot the foul, quick to stop play and quick to protect them. But when Egypt are on the receiving end of similar incidents, suddenly the game is allowed to continue and everyone is told to move on.

That’s the issue people have tonight. Not the result itself, but the lack of consistency in the decision-making.

Then you look at the build-up to Enzo Fernández’s winning goal. Egypt were screaming for a foul, their players were surrounding the referee, and millions watching expected VAR to at least take a proper look at it. Instead, it felt like everyone in the VAR room had gone to sleep.

What exactly is VAR there for if not to review the biggest moments in the biggest matches?

If that incident happened against Argentina at the other end of the pitch, do you honestly believe it wouldn’t have been checked? I find that very difficult to believe. We’ve seen much softer incidents reviewed throughout this tournament.

That’s where the frustration comes from. Fans just want the same standard applied to every team.

And let’s talk about the disciplinary side of the game. Argentina seem to get away with an awful lot. There are challenges that would normally bring yellow cards, yet the referee appears reluctant to reach for his pocket. It’s almost as if officials are afraid of making decisions that might upset Argentina.

When you look at some of Argentina’s matches in this tournament, there have been several moments where opponents felt hard done by. One incident can be debated, two incidents can be debated, but eventually people start noticing a pattern.

Football cannot afford that perception. The integrity of the game depends on supporters believing that every nation is treated equally.

Whether you’re Argentina, Egypt, Brazil, France or anyone else, the laws of the game should not change depending on the badge on your shirt.

The officials tonight had a responsibility to be fair, balanced and brave. Instead, they have left millions of people questioning why some decisions are given so easily for one side while similar incidents involving the other side are ignored.

Football deserves better than that. The players deserve better than that. And the fans certainly deserve better than that.”

Iam coming in to support @AndrewMwenda as a person who has read his articles since i was a boy in school. In 2004 (22 yrs ago- sourced from my home Lib😁), he wrote an article questioning money Gvt was giving away. He said: “The problem is not the incentives per se,but rather the context in which they are given”. 22 yrs later; isn’t this really still the point? Andrew has always loved development debate and he is currently in familiar territory with the president 😁. My submission on his consistency- not to say he right and the president is wrong. Wait guys - Lets all agree now, all countries celebrated, especially Africa but Uganda won the celebrations of the Premier league. This country had parades, concerts, church services all focused on Arsenal. I am told Arsenal is even a religion worshipped there, with their own priests and so on. @AFTVMedia just visited Uganda recently and made a very good report about this country, just also realised its the country where Nathan, Declan’s friend come from.
