CompSci students at @PearsonRanchMS in @RoundRockISD raced inchworm robots programmed on @MSMakeCode with @adafruit Circuit Playgrounds! I love the creativity in their designs & their tenacity to push through frustrating challenges to make cool stuff reality! #steam@RRISD_CTE
Thanks to @TAMUEngineering Spark! for visiting @RoundRockISD@PearsonRanchMS CompSci today to talk Engineering (over 20 diff engineering majors at Texas A&M???) & give coding lessons on @microbit_edu! This @tamu Former Student loved hosting and our Rattlers loved learning!
Proud of the hard work of our @pearsonranchms CompSci students in @roundrockisd during @sphero week! Some groups finished the Sphabyrinth maze, most came close, and everyone had fun while improving their problem solving abilities thanks to Spheros!
The Sphabyrinth! The final challenge of @Sphero week at @pearsonranchms in @roundrockisd is a 2-day toughie. Use our newfound skills to code a program that consistently navigates a maze. Just enough traps to create some “joyful frustration”…
Day 3 of Sphero week at @pearsonranchms in @roundrockisd - learning to code! We compared @Sphero driving to drawing and then tried to code our way around a square. Reducing the number of variables helped improve our programs but perfection was still hard to achieve!
Day 2 of @sphero week at @pearsonranchms in @roundrockisd put our new driving skills to the test on the track! Sphuper Mario Kart let kids race each other while also keeping their Sphero aimed the right way to not crash out (some students still totally crashed out) #sphero#steam
#Sphero week is back at@pearsonranchms in @roundrockisd! As always we KICK IT OFF with @sphero soccer AKA Sphutbol as students learn to control their robots (which are actually real-world sprites like the ones we will soon code in @codeorg GameLab)! #steam#compsci
Build a boat day @pearsonranchms CompSci! Problem solving process works better if you define the right problem. 1st boat challenge: hold the most golf balls, boats usually held 10-40. 2nd challenge: hold 100+ golf balls; amazing improvements! @roundrockisd#steam#thefrontfelloff
Thx @DellTech for hosting @RoundRockISD@RRISD_CTE CTE! We learned opportunities/challenges of the digital human program & thoughtful design behind their #AI development. As an #Austin native, this was like a visit to the MotherShip of local innovation & a super cool experience!
Embarrassing for @teainfo to perpetuate this scam under the direction of @GregAbbott_TX. If you won’t pay for grading, paying for the test is a waste of taxpayer money.
Many of you may not know that student written responses on the STAAR test are graded by computers.
We resubmitted our results and had almost 25% of our submissions improve by paying @teainfo an additional 50 dollars per test (!?!) to have a human being lay eyes on the student’s work.
I’m grateful we can have tests rescored , but also sad that we have to stake 50 dollars to have a human view the results. TEA refunds your money if score goes up, but still districts are forced to make a financial decision to get an accurate result.
Think of the impact that improvement has on student confidence, teacher efficacy, teacher TIA results, and campus and district ratings.
Districts are put in a tough position when they are hammered for artificially and incorrect lower scores, but might not have the resources to pay to have an actual human grade the students work
We spotted four (non-venomous) water snakes while mountain biking on the Brushy Creek Trail today in Cedar Park! The summer of snakes continues... #cedarpark
Final project for CompSci at @pearsonranchms in @roundrockisd@RRISD_CTE; programming self-driving robots using @elecfreaks_official CuteBots & @microbit_edu MicroBits! We coded motors to move & sonar sensors to stop, then came up with logic to self-navigate a course #steam#edu
CompSci students at @PearsonRanchMS in @RoundRockISD coded figure eight patterns with @elecfreaks Cutebots driven by @microbit_edu micro:bits! Some students even managed to setup remote control capabilities using the micro:bit radio functions! #steam#edu
@KathyCeceri@adafruit It’s one of the coolest things we do each year! If we have time we also do a 6 foot race:

Thanks so much for creating such an amazing and engaging learning experience!
@PearsonRanchMS CompSci students also showed off art in Worms on Parade! I loved the creativity of unique designs on a tiny cardboard canvas. #STEAM needs #Art and our students know details matter! (Thx to our awesome art teachers @MissMannArt @cranekartPRMS & Miss Gonzalez!)
