HAPPENING NOW!
The first South African screening of
‘Toxic Harvest: The Hidden Truth About Pesticides’ at the Neelsie, Stellenbosch.
A great part of the documentary was filmed in the Winelands and it is such a pleasure to bring the film home, said Executive Producer of the film Refiloe Joala.

I went to documentary premiere and let me tell you, it is mortifying to realise that the average South African likely ingests residues from 10-15 different pesticides per day via diet. This not looking at other sources or exposure. As South Africans we need to start to more critical of what we consume. Actively.

The split is even closer when you add the informal creative activity that Stats SA misses, tipping the creative economy up to the R 80–85 billion range.
The creative economy in South Africa is comparable in size to the agriculture sector. The Department of Sport, Arts & Culture’s 2022 “State of the South African Creative Economy” report pegs the creative sector at about R 74 billion, or roughly 2.5 % of 2022 GDP...
National Treasury’s figures for the same year put agriculture, including agro-processing from both commercial and subsistence farms at just over R 81 billion (≈ 2.7 % of GDP). So the two are indeed running neck-and-neck, differing by less than half a percentage point of GDP.
