What Burkina Faso did is a reckless embarrassment to international aviation practice. No serious nation detains a crew that declared an emergency. No responsible government impounds an aircraft that followed ICAO procedures to the letter. What happened in Bobo Dioulasso is not sovereignty. It is pettiness. It is insecurity dressed up as nationalism. It is the behaviour of a junta that is so consumed by its internal failures that it must manufacture hostility to feel relevant.

When military regimes start violating the very rules that keep global aviation safe, it becomes clear that they have no respect for international norms. Burkina Faso acted out of bitterness over Nigeria’s role in preventing their political mischief in Benin Republic. Instead of confronting their own failures, they took it out on innocent Nigerian Air Force personnel who were only trying to save lives. That is not strength. That is childishness. That is a government that does not understand diplomacy, cooperation or responsibility.

What is even more disgraceful is that some Nigerians jumped online to defend Burkina Faso. Nigerians who have turned themselves into permanent enemies of their own country. Nigerians who cheer for any foreign actor that insults Nigeria, simply because they cannot cope with the fact that their preferred opposition never wins elections. The greatest mental disorder in politics is hatred for one’s own country. And we have seen it again. People who hate Nigeria so intensely that they prefer to side with a hostile junta rather than admit that their propaganda has no substance.

Burkina Faso violated ICAO rules. That is a fact. Nigeria was right. That is another fact. Yet the usual chorus of opposition activists would rather celebrate Nigeria’s humiliation than defend the sovereignty of the country whose passport they hold. It is the height of irresponsibility and self hatred. It shows why they can never gain the trust of Nigerians to lead this nation.

Aviation safety is built on trust. International law is built on cooperation. Leadership is built on loyalty to one’s homeland. Burkina Faso failed on all three. And those Nigerians defending them have failed even more.
