@ughtwt FF 15 - 5 million sales on Day 1. In a single day.
FF 14 - 30 mil registered users
FF Rebirth - ~5 mil sales in over 2 years.
"Never been more popular"
Sure!!!
To be clear-
I am not hating on these games.
I was commenting on the insane glazing that Max, whom I respect, does for these games.
Max brought up review scores and award nominations, and said that a "VERY large majority of people are into this shyt".
Which I disagree with.
I respect Maximillian, but these Remakes are also the highest-budgeted and most marketed JRPGs in history, and yet they have completely failed to expand the Final Fantasy fanbase, which is, in fact, shrinking, as the majority don't hate these.
They simply don't care for them.
He is spitting 100% complete facts
It’s always just been a vocal minority that chooses to be toxic and I’ll never be gaslit into believing it’s this massive 50-50 divide grifters try to paint it as
@yozahir@SendoDX I welcome the PS5 slander, but you also have to admit that gaming has grown a lot since 2016.
Also, FF15 was released in November 2016. PS4/Xbox One had a total install base of around~75 mil by the end of 2016.
And shouldn't Rebirth have sold better when PS5 has no other games!
@TheBaronMrk I was criticising the glazing that Max does for these Remakes all the time, and including that video clip.
He started talking about nominations and Metacritic scores to paint a certain picture, so I brought up the insane budget, marketing and yet the declining popularity.
@snakxv Max and many fans refuse to admit how insane it sounds to anyone outside of the FF fanbase that they have to buy 3 games over 7 years to play a trilogy that is a reimagining of a single 1997 JRPG.
+my tweet was more against the glazing that Max does for these remakes all the time
@SendoDX FF 15, the 81 Metacritic mediocre ass FF game, sold 5 million copies, on day 1... in 2016...
FF 14, although an MMO, has constantly driven Square Enix towards profit each financial year with 30 million registered players.
FF 7 Rebirth has barely sold <5 mil copies in 2 years.
@Spooky_GoblinX@AntifaCostanza I am not defending the haters, man!
I am just against the insane glazing Max does for these Remakes.
Talking about data, it is clear from sales that a large section of people who bought Remake didn't even bother to buy Rebirth.
81 metacritic FF15 sold 5 mil copies on day 1!
@AntifaCostanza I agree with you 100%. I remember the first day 5 mil sales hype for FF15.
I am not blaming just these Remakes for everything wrong with Sq Enix or FF franchise, but am saying that these remakes aren't being hated by some minority. People don't care about them/FF as much anymore.
@Budday01 Perhaps Xenoblade/Persona/Tales/Fire Emblem and other smaller JRPGs have steadily taken away some of the traditional JRPG audience from FF. Might be one of the factors at play here.
I drew the cover art for the article "Shadow of the Colossus: An oral history" on Design Room, launched yesterday.
As it is the 20th anniversary of the release, Fumito Ueda and other people involved in the project talk about the time of development.

If games like this can sell 5 million copies in less than 10 days on Steam, then you have to wonder what the fck was Microsoft doing over the last decade and how they let studios make overproduced games that took 6-7 years to make and didn't sell 1 million copies!
@PaulTassi The whole concept of AI content is abhorrent, but you are deluding yourself if you think the masses aren't already consuming AI content and loving it because they don't care. They care about their momentary entertainment.
Soon, they'll replace CGI in movies with full Gen AI, too
A game can be greater than the sum of its parts.
There is literally nothing that Breath of the Wild does better than other games. Neither combat, nor interactivity, story(lmao), puzzles, exploration, etc.
And yet BOTW is simply breathtaking
GTA's fun lies in its chaos and freedom
GTA is the Avatar of video games. Lowest common denominator stuff. Nobody's ever praised the quality of GTA's vehicle controls, or the combat, or the story, or the movement mechanics, it's just the game that has all of those things and does it well enough in a big world.
