U.S. President Donald Trump wished the Virgin Mary a happy birthday, writing, “Happy Birthday Mary, Queen of Victories!”
Whether you like him or not, having the person in the world’s most powerful position publicly acknowledge the Virgin Mary is, in itself, a victory for Catholicism.
Today the Church rejoices, it is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary!
In the quiet home of Saints Joachim and Anne, after long years of waiting and prayer, God gave the world a daughter unlike any other.
A child conceived without sin, born full of grace, prepared from the first instant of her life to become the Mother of God.
Her birth is the first light before Christmas. The dawn that announced the coming of the Son of man.
Without Mary there is no Incarnation. Without her “yes” there is no Savior.
Heaven looked upon Mary and saw the woman who would crush the serpent’s head and give us Jesus.
How good the Father is to give us such a Mother so pure, so tender, so completely His, and so completely ours.
O Mary, born of grace and full of grace,
we thank God for the gift of your life.
Pray for us who have recourse to thee.
Teach us to receive Jesus as you did: with an undivided heart.
Blessed be your holy nativity, dearest Mother. We love you. Amen
@Fomoshopped@Cindi_2007@5Solas If I say to Robert, “I pray thee to help me,” I am asking Robert.
If I later tell John what happened, I say, “I prayed to Robert to help me.”
The "to" does not turn Robert into God. It only names the person I asked.
During Pope St. John Paul II’s first visit to the United States in 1979, he embraced the elderly and frail Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen and told him:
“You have written and spoken well of the Lord Jesus Christ. You are a loyal son of the Church.”
Both Fulton Sheen and John Paul II courageously opposed the spread of communism and defended the freedom of the Church and the dignity of the human person.
@MilioooSkum53@Cindi_2007@5Solas I address directly Cindi's post. Jesus wants us to help each other. It's not "me and Jesus", it's the chuch, the Body of Christ and Jesus.
The issue of "alive" is the next goal post which jossh11 addressed.
@MrCasey62 "Not one of his bones will be broken." It's certain possible. And yes, it's unlikely, perhaps counts as a miracle, but that's exactly why it's noteworthy.
A Catholic priest, Father Christopher Peschel, was injured while trying to protect a monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament from a man who attempted to take it from his church in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
@DaveWhiskerz@PetGorilla Right. Christianity is the only religion where God is a historical figure. Jesus knows that people are body and spirit and that we need to have flesh and blood with the guidance of the Holy Spirit guiding the Church until he comes back.
Just-war criteria are Church teaching. Whether a given war meets them is a prudential judgment reserved to those responsible for the common good (CCC 2309). I don’t hear him saying the Pope is wrong.
I think JD was a bit confused about what the Pope said, and so he probably thought that others might be as confused as he was. Hence the nudge toward caution.
@BishopJaxi Yes. It's like saying "No one on Earth can tell me what to do."
Same goes with "Bible alone". It’s another way of saying "I can interpret the Bible to mean whatever suits me."
In other words "I can do whatever I want."
@PartesanJournal@FrMatthewLC "by word" means verbal or oral tradition.
The Apostles passed on their authority to the Bishops of today through an unbroken line of Apostolic Succession. So, we still have oral tradition today.
@jptierney7@FrMatthewLC He's a Priest. He reads the bible daily. That's part of his job description.
Now, are anything you said "written" (in Scripture)?
Why do Protestants make claims like "Do not go beyond what is written!" when that itself is not written?
In fact, Scripture contradicts that claim & that human tradition is only a few hundred years old.
