Events of the past [sic] offer a not-so-gentle reminder of the dangers of deference & cheap trust. Your riskiest assumptions are the ones you outsource. No institution, individual, influencer, or cult of personality is infallible. Bias towards hard promises & independent thought.

Our heuristics for trust & security are deeply flawed. The problem won’t be solved by another company or piece of tech. The problem is believing it can be. The problem is ontological and epistemic. It will only be solved thru similar.
And we can’t rely on companies who profit from information asymmetry. Security (& trust) follows intelligence here - it’s a networked phenomenon.
@TrustWallet Firmware version? CVE? This wouldn't be the first zero-click iMessage exploit. If you're not referring to a known exploit, then versions would at least be helpful. If you are, then this could have been communicated entirely differently without causing panic.
@NEARProtocol This problem - software supply chain security, is exactly what we’re working on at @Archetype_Infra . Audits, attestations and arbitrary metadata will be available for packages, contracts, BOS components, and more. Coming soon (tm)
— this app you’re trusting - this frankenbundle of packages held together by duct tape, hope, an army of unpaid, underappreciated software engineers, a host of accounts that no longer exist, & a cacophony of m i c r o s e r v i c e s.
Quick point on the events yesterday - here's an open secret of the modern web:
The apps, sites, & services you use every day are fundamentally not secure. Why? Bundles, dependencies & cheap trust.
— these authors, with no relation to your trusty nanny-cam company or credit score app, who never intended for their library to be used this way, who thought no one cared about the simple library they wrote a couple years ago
Deeply saddened by the brutal acts of terror, mass indiscriminate killings & sheer disregard for human life. When you hear “From the River to the Sea..” this is what that means: the total removal of Jews & Israelis from the land of Israel - through bloodshed, violence & terror.
