The people harmed by this xenophobic and racist policy weren’t those trying to cheat the system. They were the people who followed every rule, submitted every document, and paid every fee they were required to.
Judge McConnell’s ruling is an important reminder that @DHSgov and @SecMullinDHS seem to always forget: the government cannot simply pick and choose which laws it gets to enforce just because they want to force their own discriminatory political agendas.
There is a big question on how USCIS will get all these cases back into its processing queue.
By contacting USCIS you can remind the agency that a case is pending but whether that will work without more concrete steps (congressional assistance, expedite requests, etc) is to be seen…
This is a direct attack on our legal immigration system: making it more unworkable, punishing families, workers, and businesses.
It’s also unlawful. We must and will fight back.

The U.S. built the greatest universities in the world by attracting the best talent globally.
Now we’re watching international enrollment collapse while universities cut programs, freeze hiring, and struggle financially.
A 20% drop is massive. Some schools are reportedly seeing near-zero international intake in programs.
The irony is that Trump once talked about “stapling green cards to diplomas” with people like @Jason and @DavidSacks.
Instead, we’re creating uncertainty that pushes top students, researchers, and future founders elsewhere.
Countries competing with America are celebrating this.
Mr. @SecRubio acknowledged that the people of Iran are different from the regime and described them as phenomenal. That matters.
Many of these individuals came to the United States on #F1 and #J1 visas as students, researchers, and scientists, contributing to universities and innovation. A number have already had their #I-140 petitions approved by @USCIS, demonstrating extraordinary ability and national interest merit.
However, we noticed that they are now impacted by the USCIS pause policy, with applications not being processed since December 2025. This has left many in limbo, facing uncertainty, job loss, and the risk of being forced to return to unsafe conditions.
A small fraction of these phenomenal individuals need urgent attention. Addressing the hold on their NIW applications would align policy with stated values.

@SecRubio , thank you for acknowledging the Iranian people.
Many legal Iranian students, doctors, engineers, and researchers in the U.S. are now stuck in limbo because of the USCIS pause despite following every rule.
Please help ensure they can continue contributing and living stable lives.

Three-quarters of Americans think international students are a “good thing” for the U.S., but views diverge widely based on political affiliation. Most Democrats and independents think its a positive, but only about half of Republicans surveyed agree in a @QuinnipiacPoll
@SecMullinDHS
Mr. Secretary,
We respectfully urge you to resume and complete adjudication of immigration cases that have remained pending within U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for extended periods, leaving highly skilled professionals and scholars in prolonged uncertainty.
Such delays risk conflicting with the principles outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1152, which prohibit discrimination based on nationality or place of birth. These individuals have complied fully with U.S. law and have made meaningful contributions to American science, technology, and the broader economy.
Prolonged inaction undermines confidence in the rule of law and creates a lose–lose outcome; both for those affected and for the United States’ long-standing commitment to fairness, merit, economy and prosperity.
So if you go to https://t.co/e8wyX15Bhk you will see the memo regarding the USCIS benefits pause. It says last updated 3/30. Well, guess what? It changed sometime after 4/27 and I'm guessing it was probably today given the horribly shameful news that researchers who were working on the pancreatic cancer AI diagnosis breakthrough have been caught up in the illegal USCIS benefits pause. The second screenshot below is what the paragraph with a new physician exception looked like two days ago.

Yes, it's completely awful. Since December, the U.S. government has put HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of applications from people from 39 different countries into filing cabinets and is refusing to issue decisions — even if it means people lose their jobs. https://t.co/IJsMhf4JD9
Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States.
Afshar is the niece of deceased Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. She is also an outspoken supporter of the Iranian regime who celebrated attacks on Americans and referred to our country as the "Great Satan."
This week, I terminated both Afshar and her daughter's legal status and they are now in ICE custody, pending removal from the United States.
The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.
@PahlaviReza@saba_Rhmn@SecMullinDHS@SecMullinDHS I am an oncologist physician, entered US on research visa in 2017 and got my green card through "National Interest Waiver". I applied for citizenship last year however I never got any update regarding my case. Hardworking Iranians deserve to be treated better!
Mr. @SecMullinDHS, as you step into your new position I ask you to provide particular consideration to the status of Iranian students and professionals in the United States who may be at risk of immigration complications due to Presidential Proclamations 10949 and 10998. Many of these individuals fled the Islamic Republic’s because they believe in freedom, democracy, and the values this country stands for. They are also contributing to the United States every day.
They arrived in this country legally, followed the rules, respect this country and its system of law and order and are among the most dedicated and accomplished contributors to American society. I ask that you and your department consider these factors, plus the personal and political risk many of these young people would face if sent back to the criminal regime in Iran.
America’s concerns for its national security and the threat posed by the Islamic regime to the homeland are entirely justified. To that end, my office stands ready to provide you and your colleagues with regime operatives, propaganda agents, and influence networks for investigation and removal from the United States.
Thank you for your consideration.
@elonmusk
Dear Elon,
In these critical days, the people of Iran need internet access. Please help them stay connected as they struggle to reclaim their country from the rule of the mullahs. Stand with the Iranian people. Iran will not forget its friends.
Secretary @marcorubio
Iranian immigrants have long contributed to the U.S. economy, especially in STEM, medicine and AI. Most strongly oppose the Islamic regime and support the goal of a strong and secure USA under President Trump and your leadership.
Over the past few months, many have faced serious hardship due to the USCIS hold. They are here legally and often hold advanced degrees. Returning them to Iran would place them in danger and risk sending highly trained experts in strategic fields back to the Iranian regime.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could revisit this decision.
Thank you for your consideration.
