*Demand Raised to Increase Power Allocation to 50 MVA to End Uri Electricity Crisis*
Srinagar , 29 January 2026:Amid persistent and severe power shortages in the Uri Subdivision, residents and stakeholders have strongly demanded an increase in electricity allocation from the existing 20 MVA to 50 MVA, stating that this single step can permanently resolve the long-standing electricity crisis in the region.
According to locals, the current power allocation is grossly inadequate to meet the rising domestic and commercial demand, especially during the harsh winter months when electricity becomes a basic necessity for survival. Frequent power cuts, erratic supply, and low voltage have severely affected daily life, healthcare services, educational institutions, and local businesses across the subdivision.
Residents believe that even if the enhancement in power allocation takes an additional 15 to 20 days to implement, the long-term relief and stability it would provide far outweigh the short delay. They said that upgrading the allocation to 50 MVA would significantly stabilize the power supply and reduce recurring outages in Uri.
The people of Uri have urged MLA Uri, the Power Development Department, and the district administration to treat the issue as a top priority and move towards a permanent and sustainable solution instead of temporary arrangements. They emphasized that a lasting increase in power allocation is essential for ensuring reliable electricity and improving the overall quality of life in this border subdivision.
Meanwhile, residents of the Uri Constituency have requested MLA Uri Dr Sajjad Shafi Uri to take up the matter with the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest, hoping that his intervention will lead to timely action and bring an end to the ongoing electricity hardship faced by the people.@OfficeOfLGJandK @OmarAbdullah @
