Happy to share that I’ve been promoted to associate professor as of Sept 1, 2024. Extremely grateful to the love & support of my family, incredible mentors, awesome colleagues, and an amazing team.
Coincidentally this year also marks 100 years in ophthalmology for my family. My grandfather graduated with a diploma in ophthalmology from Oxford in 1924. He was a man ahead of his time but he never forgot where he came from, who he was, and what was expected of him. After being one of a handful of surgeons educated in the English system he returned to India. Throughout his life he fought for social justice, for Indian independence, and to preserve sight for every man, woman, and child he treated. He would go on to set up one of the first “eye camps” in India. He was a poet, a humanitarian, and an inspiration to all who met him. My dad & sister continue his legacy today. For decades of service providing comprehensive and subspecialty retinal surgical eye care in the US and internationally my dad received the Paul Harris medal, awarded to those who pride “service above self.” #RoleModels #ToThoseWhoCameBefore

What an inspiring week at the @TheASNR
national meeting. An amazing #FocusedUltrasound session with talks from all-star thought leaders such as @KullervoHynynen. Great to see so many academic and industry partners working together to shape the future of #PrecisionImaging based #IncisionlessTherapies for neurologic and psychiatric diseases. Very grateful for the opportunity to present on our work and incredibly thankful to all the organizers, sponsors, presenters, and friends for making the meeting an incredible one. @INSIGHTEC #TheFutureIsNow #ThisIsTheWay #ASNR24

Totally agree - well placed lesions and leads are critical to outcomes. Smaller well placed lesions more effective with fewer side effects than larger, less precise or off-target lesions... but better predictive analytics to determine optimal patient specific technical/treatment parameters to create optimal lesion volume are needed. Eg. Not sure that a 55 degree lesion has the same effectiveness across patients and cannot underplay the significance of the length of time the tissue is exposed to “ablative temperatures.”
It was a fantastic trip to Madrid to visit my friends Dr. Carlos Perez Garcia @Justcharly9 , Dr. Miguel Yus Fuertes @MiguelYF, @lidia_gilm, and team at the Hospital ClinicoUniversitario San Carlos in Madrid for a #neuroHIFU case day. Incredible to see our advanced imaging targeting method, #FourTractTractography, successfully implemented internationally with different scanners and post-processing algorithms. #MRgHIFU
Grateful for the invitation to present our work in #FocusedUltrasound and to meet and hear talks from Dr. Jose Angel Pineda Pardo, Dr. Fernandez Revuelta, Dr. Marc Gallay, MD, Dr. Jose Antonio Lopez Garcia, and Dr. German Latorre.
Humbled to be a part of this international, multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary, collaboration and looking forward to our future work together. So many great ideas and future plans. (#StayTuned).

Este jueves 18 de abril a las 15:30 realizamos en el H Clínico una reunión de actualización de temas candentes del HIFU 🔥”Del Temblor al Dolor”. Tanto presencial u online. Os esperamos!!
Great work by our team & @FabricioFeltrin
on getting this published in Movement Disorders Clinical Practice. In this letter, we cover technical considerations, feasibility, and our multi-disciplinary approach to treating #tremor with #MRgHIFU in a patient with an MCA aneurysm status post Woven EndoBridge (WEB) embolization. @UTSWBrain@UTSW_Radiology@UTSWNeurology

A click on the screen and the satisfied face of the neurologist assessing #tremor…
Simple action for the everyday miracle that is focused ultrasound.
Thank you @BhavyaRShahMD of @UTSWNews for hosting me.
Congratulations to @Justcharly9, @MiguelYF, & team. They recently published their experience reproducing our multi-parametric approach to #MRgHIFU targeting using different MRI scanners and post-processing software and similarly demonstrated reduced treatment times and improved outcomes. Consistency, reproducibility, and independent verification are hallmarks to multi-center, multi-disciplinary team science. #TheFutureIsNow #ThisIsTheWay @UTSW_Radiology@UTSWNeurology@UTSWBrain@UtsWcand
Muy contentos de publicar nuestro primer artículo como grupo de HIFU en el Hospital Clínico San Carlos. El uso de la tractografía probabilística para el tratamiento del temblor esencial, con grandes resultados y mínimos efectos secundarios.

On #VeteransDay (and every day) we stand with our veterans & thank them for their service & sacrifice.
A patient journey that particularly resonates today is that of a veteran who spent the majority of his career advancing sonar technology and advanced targeting/guidance systems.
After retirement he began custom restorations of classic cars. However, over the last 20 years, his essential tremor made it impossible to hold a wrench and it had “made his life miserable.”
I had the privilege of treating him with #MRgHIFU using our advanced multi-parametric targeting approach.
When we were done he said to me, “Life is funny. Sometimes you come back to where you started. The best sound in my life was the one that I could not hear, delivered to a target that only you could see…” #poet
Thankful for this country and all who defend it. Grateful for loving patients, supportive mentors, and an incredible team.

Recently I had the opportunity to treat an artist with #MRgHIFU who had been plagued by #EssentialTremor for the last 30 years. After the procedure the patient offered to draw me some wall-art for our HIFU suite. The patient shared a “sample sketch” to “exemplify” their skill that they drew immediately after surgery while in recovery.
This return of function is the result of pioneering work in transcranial focused ultrasound treatments. Focused ultrasound is an incisionless therapy that offers new hope to those with essential tremor and Parkinson's disease.
Our group has pioneered advanced multi-parametric imaging techniques to personalize focused ultrasound therapy that minimizes adverse effects and reduces treatment times.
The result is not only this incredible artwork but also the restoration of this patient's daily activities and independence.

The @UTSWNews Dept of #Radiology's Dr. Bhavya Shah hosted @Columbia's Dr. Elisa Konofagou as guest speaker for the @UTSWBrain's monthly seminar. Dr. Konofagou shared her expertise in ultrasound-based technologies including transcranial focused ultrasound.
