Is ESG Dead? Well, it depends who you ask. But everyone agrees ESG ETFs are at a major inflection point. On the latest Trillions pod we debate and dissect this topic w/ BI's two ESG analysts @Rduboff & @Shaheen_SC w/ @joelwebershow https://t.co/QUJzGGIgTc
@Hector_McNeil@rduboff@Shaheen_SC@joelwebershow We cover that in pod. Europe is an artificial environment, shouldn't really count, as ppl forced into it, plus no worries about the active bets ESG makes bc no danger on missing out on any juggernaut innovation type returns like in US
In a rare instance, ESG ETFs fell about 2% to the tune of more than $50 billion amid weaker performance.
Bloomberg Intelligence ESG Analyst @Shaheen_SC joins @TimSteno and @KGreifeld to discuss what's led to the decline.

@frazerrice@EricBalchunas So if it’s 6.3& benchmark is 6 it means it is slightly better than benchmark. Our research has this for many funds so you can see how much better vs others and get a sense of range. Improvement is imp! We can track the scores over time as it evolves but that’s a version 2 maybe
@frazerrice@EricBalchunas It’s all relative. I like the rule of thumb to be a comparable benchmark. Eg the esg fund is x% better than the non esg benchmark. (Like s&p 500 esg fund vs s&p 500)
Good ETF IQ coming up: @ToddRosenbluth on bonds, $MTUM and ESG confusion, @Shaheen_SC on why S&P has point re Tesla and @mattbartolini on the red hot $SPYD and sector ETF dispersion.. w/ @kgreifeld@kaileyleinz 1pm, stream here: https://t.co/JYsNVIG8EO
Throwback to a few weeks back when I discussed the decline in ESG ETF assets with @kaileyleinz and @kgreifeld on ETF IQ. Brings into focus the concentration risks we have been talking about for a long time now. #ESG#ETFs
Here's where Tesla gets dinged from ESG ppl/scores, stuff like board diversity, exec pay incentives and shareholder rights. Highlights the big gaps (right or wrong) bt scrutiny level of ESG scores vs public's image of a co. Good note on this today from @Shaheen_SC and @rduboff
As the S&P 500 ESG index drops Tesla, its ESG status remains heavily debated. Many ESG funds appear to hold it. Tesla ranks 46th in the S&P in our analysis of companies' likelihood of inclusion in ESG funds. Read more https://t.co/jTrQWxuahi Also @EricBalchunas has a great poll

It was great to discuss diversity and inclusion at the CFA Society Philadelphia's #DEI conference with @rduboff. Great insights on the importance of a robust talent pipeline. #ESG#Bloomberg#CFA
ESG stocks aren't seeing higher valuations, but one might argue they should if ESG = lower risk. Our model shows 2 pricing disconnects: high ESG scores with discounted valuations, and low scores with higher valuations. Check out all the stocks on the terminal

Removing Russia will have little impact on ESG ETFs given ~0.11% was held before the crisis. But exposure could be prolonged! ESG investors are stuck with Russia for a while whether they like it or not.
ESG ETFs: before & after MSCIs index removal @tpsarofagis #esg#ETF#Russia
@tpsarofagis @EricBalchunas@JSeyff@rayar_anthony The one and only! ( I won’t mention a muuuch older account with 15 year old me talking about rock music)
Our BI ESG ETF Exposure Scores are now live. The scores measure the ESG-ness of what I call the 'wild west' of ETFs. Run {BI ETFSG <GO>} to access this.
Kudos to @EricBalchunas@JSeyff@rayar_anthony @tpsarofagis for bringing this together.
