PM Modi inaugurated the new CG Power🇮🇳-Renesas🇯🇵 semiconductor plant in Sanand, Gujarat.

For years we’ve been importing almost all the chips we need for phones, cars, electronics, defence equipment and everything else. That made us dependent and vulnerable whenever global supply chains got disrupted.

The good part is, we have always been quite strong in chip design. We already contribute a big chunk of the world’s semiconductor design talent. But design alone isn’t enough. The real challenge was moving into actual manufacturing and assembly/testing/packaging on our own soil.

These manufacturing plants (fabs) are extremely expensive and technically complex to set up. That’s why most of the projects approved so far under the semiconductor mission are focused on OSAT and ATMP work basically the back-end part where chips are assembled, tested and packaged.

Gujarat is clearly becoming one of the main hubs for this. Along with this new Renesas project, there’s already Micron’s plant and a few others coming up in the Sanand-Dholera area.

This is what real self-reliance looks like not some overnight miracle, but steady, practical steps. Every new plant means more jobs for our engineers and technicians, and slowly reduces our dependence on imports.

What could have been done in 2000s is being done now, Previous governments led us down but Modi hai to mumkin hai...from toilets to moon to chips...only a chaiwala can do it because Harvard studied people couldn't when they were in power, imagine the years and growth we lost.😒
