Shan Shui Conservation Centre is a Chinese NGO founded in 2007. We practice community-based conservation and citizen science to conserve species and ecosystems.
Volunteer teacher Wenhui brought the "Shanghai Urban Nature Observation Kit" to Jinlu Primary School's "Parents in the Classroom" event.
Students went from knowing nothing about raccoon dogs to learning their traits via crafts, and discovering how to coexist with urban wildlife.
On Apr 25, volunteers built insect hotels with reeds and twigs at Nanjing Olympic Sports Center, creating tiny homes for solitary bees among native plants. 🌿🐝
We’ll check back soon—sealed reed holes = happy new residents! Spot one? Snap & tag us to celebrate urban biodiversity.

Adult yaks rarely fall prey—they fight back. Watch as a yak charges and scares off two curious #snowleopard cubs.
A crucial survival lesson for the young predators: living alongside giants takes more than strength—it takes wisdom.
More migratory birds are heading north, and volunteers in the Yangtze River Delta recorded 23 bird-collision incidents—6 injured, 17 dead.
Cities shouldn’t be deadly for birds. Close curtains, turn off extra lights, and use bird-safe window decals.
On the Gyatong Grassland, a young Tibetan fox cub never lived to see the coming spring. To understand what had happened, we reviewed a full month of footage before and after the incident.
#EarthDay, witness the resilience of life on the still-frozen plateau.

The “Pastures at Your Fingertips” felt handicraft workshop was a great success!

Beijing Ant Forest's first interpretive signs are now up along the Zhaitang Mountain Trail!
Located in Xishan Forest Farm (1,100-1,400m), this "nature classroom" shows forest succession & biodiversity.
Hike, explore, and uncover the forest's secrets.
Batch two coming in summer!
Is an understory space dull and lacking in biodiversity? We've once again planted native species to restore it!
To help visitors better understand theseplants, our lovely volunteers have even crafted educational signs for them.
On Mar24, as Chinese cornel bloomed in Shaanxi, a 15-member joint patrol hiked 12 km from Chaoyang to Daguping, removing illegal traps and recording wildlife—including 52 giant panda signs (5 fresh).
The day ended with an inspiring exchange on nature education design.
Watch till the end 👀
When a snow leopard encounters wolves, it will usually steer clear.
Even when there may be only a single wolf(like in the video), it still prefers not to take the risk. This mutual avoidance reflects a simple truth: survival on the Plateau is never easy.
Spring arrives almost overnight in Beijing. Blossoms are everywhere, and we’ve kicked off a pilot survey of the city’s pollination network.
We recorded just a few early pollinators, mainly honey bees and butterflies.

New Science Paper evaluates China's updated wildlife crime penalties. By converting monetary thresholds back to individual animals, scientists find some endangered species may now face lower protection thresholds. Urgent call to integrate conservation science into legal standards
Another Lantern Festival is here.

DYK badgers are renowned for digging cozy, well-structured burrows?
On the sparsely vegetated plateau, these prized homes are essential for raising young — and often spark “property disputes” among mid-sized carnivores.
Camera traps captured a shy forest visitor that looks straight out of Bambi.
This is the forest musk deer — a small, elusive mountain species.

The camera trap in the Qilian Mountains welcomed two special visitors: a #snowleopard mother her young cub.
The cub was still a tiny, wobbly bundle of fluff. Before long, though, it will grow up, exploring this rarely visited land with greater confidence and untamed grace,
Encounters with #MarbledCats
Captured by infrared cameras:
marbled cats appear in front of the lens,
each fleeting moment a quiet thrill of the forest.
It's almost like a dream.
On a hillside covered with blooming Bistorta macrophylla, a mother snow leopard and her cub nestled together—playing, then resting—sharing a quiet moment that belonged only to them on this lovely planet.
