“Without Parliament we shall shed tears in vain, the English will laugh at us, and the moral will be that we brought it on ourselves”. Andrew Fletcher, 1706.
Congolese LGBT+ rights activist Alphonse Mihigo hospitalized in violent attack
He was bravely campaigning against the nation’s homophobic Minister of Justice, who has urged that LGBT+ people should be arrested even though the Congo has no anti-gay law https://t.co/5aRy4Ao2j2
A Life Sacrificed in Protest Against @khamenei_ir and his dictatorship
Yesterday, Iranian activist Kianoosh Sanjari issued a desperate ultimatum to the Islamic Republic. He tweeted that if four political prisoners he named were not released, he would take his own life. Today, he kept his promise. Kianoosh, who had already endured nine arrests, months of solitary confinement, and brutal torture, has now left us.
These were his last words:
“No one should be imprisoned for expressing their beliefs. Protesting is the right of every Iranian citizen. My life will end after this tweet, but let us not forget that we have sacrificed, and continue to sacrifice, for the love of life, not for death. I am ending my life in protest against the dictatorship of Khamenei and his partners.”
Kianoosh Sanjari’s blood is on the hands of Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Republic. They drove him to this tragic end, refusing to release innocent people whose only crime was fighting for freedom.
This is what the regime does, it breaks hearts, it shatters lives, and it pushes people to their limits. But let the world know: Kianoosh’s voice will not be silenced. His courage, his sacrifice, will only fuel our determination to fight against this brutal regime.
To the international community: How many more lives must be lost before you take action? How many hearts must break before you stand with the people of Iran?

@MichaelJStern1 Gay people do this? Don’t think I’ve ever done it, nor have I noticed it from any of my friends. In my experience, people who shift from one dialect to another depending on social context do so not because of their sexuality but because they’re insecure and seeking validation.
@SangitaMyska@colinHawes5 Have you ever watched this programme? It’s whole MO is to browbeat its guests and try to get a gotcha moment, they badger everyone. It’s odious gutter press tv, but if you choose to go on it as a guest you must know what to expect. @GMB
