The ideal location for this is actually in Montana. Specifically the Gates of the Mountain.
Lewis & Clark journal entry of the area- "...the rocks approach the river on both sides forming a most sublime and extraordinary spectacle."
Also:
-Not far off the interstate
-One of the few narrowest points along the river
-Decent stone for the structure loads
Putting this in a city or in Missouri would be underwhelming. The dramatic landscape adds to the grandeur of the endeavor they undertook.
@TheEagleyeNews
I think we need to build this.
I designed this below image, representing Lewis and Clark on the Mississippi in the style of Argonath.
At $1 Billion or more, I think it can be done.
This photo is from the Artemis II mission and what is most striking is you can make out the sodium line. It's incredible how truly little separates us from the vast nothing of space. This planet is all we have and is blessing that should be cherished. Happy Earth Day everyone
@oldstocky Wait until you see the new street lamps... but with LEDs you can pick the color temperature you want so it's more a problem of people not picking the right light for the space.
@fortworthchris@AustinTunnell I wonder how much we spend in increased infrastructure to accommodate these large trucks and other large vehicles when we could design for people, have smaller vehicles, and save so much money.
@joeschmidtiv Good article Joe. A few things to keep in mind from someone in the MEP 12+ years. I'd say things are much less rote for the more complex projects. More "art" in play than you'd think. Trust has to be incredibly high for any software tool that an EOR uses for developing plans.
@Afinetheorem It's really quite sad that the new buildings (like the one on the right) in the richest country in the world are so disappointing. We built so many beautiful buildings in the early 1900s.
@rushicrypto Engineer here-Dirtier water for cooling increasing fouling of pipes, filters, and heat exchangers which increases cost and maintenance. We unfortunately have little recycled water infrastructure in the US. It's a good idea, but would require political will to change regulations.
@acnewsitics Even if you invest the extra few hundred dollars saved each month, the returns wouldn't cover the mortgage after 30 years and a 4% draw from the portfolio.
What people miss from this is that a 30 year is the sweet spot for homeowners. By the time you retire you'll have a paid off house with lower monthly expenses. That piece of mind is worth alot.
"So you can't afford a 30-year mortgage, but you're going to take out a 50-year mortgage to pay $300 less a month but pay $500,000 more to the bank by the end of the loan?"
"That's correct, Dave."
