Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month 2025 Post #30
Connecting
As we come closer to the end of year 5, I wonder if my message is getting through to people. I been very blessed to have some experiences over the last five years, but nothing compares to the connections I have made over these years. Each year it seems like I get introduced to a family that has someone with Cerebral Palsy and it makes me think that I am not alone.
Yesterday Owen and I got to reconnect with one of those families. Over the past couple of years I gotten to know WPI Head Football @CoachRobFB. We met through Twitter in what I thought was him recruiting players to WPI. However, when we started to interact with my CP post, at that point I found out that he had a daughter with CP.
There was an instant connection, not only through a game we love in football, but through Cerebral Palsy. Over the past few years we have became friends. Owen and I have gone to a couple of games, Coach and I have exchanged messages, we even have faced Coach Rob's son two out of the last four years in the MIAA playoffs as he plays for Grafton. (With Scituate getting the upper hand in both, Sorry Coach)
Yesterday Owen and I were invited to a WPI spring practice to close out Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. It was great to reconnect with Coach Rob and see him in action. Owen was able to participate in a team competition, gave some words of wisdom and broke the team down, while we talked ball, but more importantly we talked life. We exchange stories of how CP affects me and how it affects his daughter. There were a lot similarities.
At the end of practice I was able to address the team. As Coach Rob was introducing me he displayed a green bracelet I had given him a couple of years back after a game in support of those with CP. He told the team since I given him that bracelet it hasn't left his wrist. As he walked as out we continued to talk about the message I continue to spread. He told me he reads my daily message and sometimes even shares it with his daughter. He reassured me that my messages were great and helpful.
I am so grateful that I have connected with Coach Robertson and his @WPIFootball family. I am hopeful to connect with the rest of his family especially his daughter so she knows she isn't alone and that she inspires me to continue to spread Awareness for CP
