@Owennfa He went to grad school. I would sure think he could explain to you how loans work. If you pay less than the interest each month the balance goes up.
@youngsteveng@A_DungeonDelver@TimothyImholt I think all administrations have enacted some bad laws. There are some things you can point back to and lay blame but that doesn’t fix anything. I’m not loyal to any party either - I’ve voted for republicans, democrats, and libertarians
@TheMattViera I have a pension too. The monthly payout is about the amount of the expected return on the lump sum w/growth I’ll have put in over 30 years. I showed our CEO the numbers. He agreed I’d be better off investing myself but said we’re required to be in the pension plan to work there
@LaissezVoltaire@DXR7619@Touc46_2 When my grandpa passed away he left a little money to my boomer mother. She immediately gave most of it to me and my siblings. Not all boomers are like those in your family, sorry they did that to you.
@Nursekatejohn You won’t if the law gets changed. If the law stays as is you’d still get it, but at a lower rate than it’s currently at. Sorry your parents aren’t going to leave you anything, mine never went on a cruise in their life.
@tommy_jawn_@Lord_Voldemeowt@Kronykal Maybe. This year they’ll vote to spite Trump. Then they’ll probably forget about economics when it’s not filling their X feed and vote again on social issues.
@codythecodeman1@sunofdixie@ompastor The only way you get 0 is if the law gets changed from its current form. It’s obvious either you truly don’t understand how SS works or you have talking points you know are false but stick with them anyway. Either way have a good night.
@theschmidtshow I mean it’s good you’re trying to come up with ideas but you’d need to come up with one that would work 😂. When the people who are 50 now retire they’d have to take $ from the Roth accounts or would have nothing to pay them with. Probably a solution that works well 4 U I assume
@codythecodeman1@sunofdixie@ompastor lol, it will exist I don’t know how you can’t understand that. It will still be paying people in perpetuity if no changes to the law are made. If you want to argue it’s a bad return on $, do that - I do - but don’t be ignorant enough to think it will just be gone and you’d get 0.
@jasonc_nc People believe they are paying in because you routinely get a statement saying how much you’ve paid in and how much you can expect to get in retirement which is based on what you paid in.
@codythecodeman1@sunofdixie@ompastor It will be bankrupt in the sense that the trust fund will be gone (in about 6 years) so they can only pay out what they take in and no more but would continue to operate, just paying a lower amount because there’s no savings to add in.
@dudesgrowin@JacobinJuice@thompsons21481 The younger generations vote en mass for the party that vows to keep it going. I think your best hope at this point is enough republicans stay in power that nothing gets passed to save the automatic cuts from happening. .
@ScotFavorite@owl_elc It’s kind of funny because they recommend we still put 15% into another retirement account in addition to the >15% going into the pension fund because they know it’s bad.
@ScotFavorite@owl_elc Yep, that’s why my gov pension is so bad - they’re having to pay out the older cushy pensions with new money. Like say I quit now and when I retire took the payout - I’d get 0% interest for the time they held my money between when I quit and the time I took my contributions out
@TabathaR81407@WendyK56334 I think some younger folks think the boomers should have just gone on X when they were young and learned about the Ponzi scheme and then voted the crooks out.
@ScotFavorite@owl_elc I’d gladly cash out my gov pension. When I retire I get a choice - take a monthly pension or take my contributions+ 1%-3% yearly interest(years were different) and I get nothing my employer contributed. Getting my contributions back still works out better than the monthly pension
