"CO2 uptake causes the oceans to acidify—with significant consequences for marine life...When CO2 is dissolved in the water, carbonic acid forms. This process acidifies the sea—the pH value drops."

@SarahMackAttack @adamteterus Moving to a new city across the country with no local social circle has been rough. Finding my local nerd crew. 🤓
Also wanting to travel more with friends but not everyone is able to for a variety of reasons. ✈️
Coral reefs cover less than 1% of the sea floor, but support 25% of all marine life. They're some of the most biodiverse places on earth, which is why they're called the rainforests of the sea....or cornucopias of the sea if you wanna be all seasonal about it.

@jentrification Worked at NASA JPL and have piercings and tattoos many of which are visible incl. a neck tattoo. No interview issues. Everyone just cares that you’re good at your job and aren’t an asshole. My parents always cautioned me growing up but they’ve actually come around and apologized
Our NYC team spent a day volunteering with @BillionOyster, who are working to introduce 1 billion oysters to New York Harbor by 2035. Restoring the harbor’s oyster reefs will support a healthy ecosystem, provide habitat, create natural storm barriers, and clean up the water.
Squids are finally having their moment this Squidtember thanks to the folks over at OceanX who are celebrating the remarkable skills of these complex organisms.

We're officially in dry-dock to update the OceanXplorer before our next mission. Our head of science operations, Mattie Rodrigue, and our mapping coordinator, Kate Von Krusenstiern, were taking off the sound velocity probes for calibration and snapped this incredible photo.
Your next #Squidtember squid, Chiroteuthis calyx, is a deep sea squid with a unique mimic strategy!
As juveniles, they have this a frilly fin situation that makes them look like siphonophores, which make super crappy meals. By looking like a bad meal, they avoid getting eaten!

#Squid Trivia
Space has #BlackHoles, the #ocean has blue ones. Blue holes are large marine sinkholes that extend hundreds of meters underwater. Likely formed during the last ice age, many blue holes sit among thriving biological communities and #reef systems. 🐠🦈🪸🔵
Despite its sheer magnitude and impact on all life on Earth, more than 80% of the #ocean remains unexplored.
If you could uncover or explore one mystery of the #ocean, what would it be? 🐙🦈🌋🌊🤿🦑 https://t.co/fIcAuQVawf
🥧#PiDay is on Monday! Did you know NASA uses pi to explore Earth, our solar system, and beyond – and students can, too? Find out how with the #NASAPiDayChallenge.

✨Students can solve some of the same math problems @NASA uses to explore the cosmos!
Bittersweet news….I am headed off on a big new adventure which I will share soon but my amazing job at @NASAJPL is open!
Ready to lead a @NASAEarth team doing the good work in Earth and Climate science communications? Apply ASAP!
