Your nervous system is your body’s survival system. It learns from every experience you have and shapes how you think, feel & react. In many ways, you are responding to life through everything you’ve lived through.
The same is true for everyone else.
Understanding this doesn’t excuse harmful behavior but it helps explain it. It reminds us that most people’s actions say more about the world their nervous system has learned to survive than they do about us.
This understanding is also the foundation of self-control. Instead of reacting automatically, we can pause and choose our response. It is the beginning of self-forgiveness too, because we learn to understand our patterns without being defined by them.
When you stop taking everything personally, forgiveness becomes less about morality and more about mental health. You forgive not because someone earned it but because you refuse to let their nervous system continue to disturb your own.
Listen to these two speeches. Different audiences, yes, but just listen carefully. One clip is from a global summit, the other is from Parliament. Take a few minutes, listen and draw your own conclusions, I won’t tell you what to think.
A Heartsound classic: ‘Tiwepo’ a solemn piano ballad; poetry written in the rhythm of the African soul.
It is the philosophy of a daughter who lost her father when she was too young to comprehend the meaning of death. Through this song, beyond his birthday and Father’s Day, I remember the eternal love, spirit and legacy of the late Simon Mhone.
The audio is available on all major streaming platforms & the official music video is available too…

Happy Father’s Day.
The Ngoni-Chewa frosty relationship was literally a bloody reality since pre-independence. Seeing them in harmony today almost feels unreal. History was made at this funeral, let’s hope it lasts. 👀🍿
