JUST IN: 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 Julian Assange officially released from prison.

Julian Assange has accepted a plea agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice following his incarceration for five years in a British prison. According to NBC, he was charged with "conspiring to obtain and disclose national defense information."

The charges against Assange relate to the publication of classified documents starting in 2009. The U.S. government alleges that Assange conspired with Chelsea Manning, an analyst in military intelligence, to disclose tens of thousands of documents.

These documents pertained to various topics, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the State Department, and assessments of Guantanamo Bay detainees. Additionally, Assange released emails from the Democratic National Committee in 2016.

1. Human civilisation has come to its end. All that we believe in, such as human rights, the sanctity of life, freedom, brotherhood, equality, free speech, free press - have now been rejected.

2. In their place the great advocates such as the United States of America and European countries, have openly supported wars, the mass killing of people, genocide, infanticide, injustice, etc. They now approve mass murder, provide arms and funds, vetoed any attempt to end war and genocide.

3. The only people protesting against the breakdown of moral and civilisational values are the young people.

4. They have risen in protest. They defied their own governments. They demand an end to the genocide against the people of Gaza.

5. They are not anti-semitic. Many of the demonstrators are Jews. They are simply against the genocide.

6. Netanyahu vows to continue the genocide. His objective is to conquer Gaza and make it a part of Israel.

7. But he will not stop there. The next target is the West Bank. Then Lebanon. Then Syria. To achieve this all Palestinians must be killed.

8. And the great power will support him with arms and money. Their veto power will ensure Netanyahu will achieve his objective.

Semasa kunjungan hormat tersebut, Duta Besar Republik Cuba menyampaikan surat daripada Presiden Republik Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez kepada Dr Mahathir. More than anything, what this 👇 confirms is the fundamentally nihilistic vision the US now has for the world, and for its place in the world. Which is the very reason why it's currently losing out. Let me explain.

To sum up, what we have here is the US:
- Funding 2 active wars, one which already wiped out an entire generation of military-age males and the other one which turned into a genocide, with most victims being women and children. And in both wars not only is the U.S. making no genuine attempt to end them (except, which is the same, saying they can only end with total capitulation of the other side): as this "aid" package proves, it's fueling the fire.
- Laying the groundwork for a 3rd war in Taiwan by inundating an island they officially recognizes is part of China and officially say they "don't support independence" for... with weapons against China.
- Banning a social media platform that they believe is making young Americans question the wisdom of their country's warlike nature.

In short: war, war, war and pro-war censorship. That's the vision that transpires from this.

I often go back to the words of George Kennan, the architect of the US's cold war strategy and a wise statesman from the days when the US still had some, who wrote that winning vs the Soviet Union was "a question of the degree to which the United States can create among the peoples of the world generally the impression of a country which knows what it wants, which is coping successfully with the problems of its internal life and with the responsibilities of a world power, and which has a spiritual vitality capable of holding its own among the major ideological currents of the time."

I'm not making the argument here that the situation today is comparable to the Cold War. It very much isn't: we're not in an ideological struggle at all, even though the US sometimes wants to make it into one with its "democracy vs autocracy" rhetoric. Which is ridiculous: no-one out there believes in "autocracy" as a system of government and the systems between countries the US classifies as its adversaries (China, Russia, Iran, etc.) are extremely different from each others. For one thing Iran is an Islamic republic and China is passionately secular.

We are however clearly in a transition period where, in the famous words of Antonio Gramsci: "The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters." And the US is of course desperate to keep the old world alive because its death means the death of its hegemony and the exorbitant privileges that come with it.

But what Kennan understood very well is that you can't make the case for hegemony for hegemony's sake. It needs to make sense domestically - "create the impression of a country which is coping successfully with the problems of its internal life" - and it needs to make sense for the world - "create among the peoples of the world generally the impression of a country which is coping with the responsibilities of a world power, and which has a spiritual vitality capable of holding its own among the major ideological currents of the time".

And what this "war, war, war and pro-war censorship" move by the U.S. demonstrates is that this is very much NOT the case. Funding wars abroad is immensely unpopular domestically and so is censorship. And what the world at large wants to see are prospects for peace: a "responsible world power" is one that can bring about sustainable peace, not fund endless wars without any positive vision for bringing an end to them or for what comes afterwards.

The only somewhat discernable vision here is "we want to win these wars decisively as losing them would mark an end to our hegemony", which frankly at this stage is more of a selling point for 90% of the planet than something that'd make them side with America... For the very reason that it's become obvious to most that the US is not a "responsible world power" anymore but instead one that has descended into a nihilistic vision where nothing else matters but the maintenance of its own domination at any cost, including paradoxically the loss of its own responsibility and "spiritual vitality".
