What a joy to congratulate Sam Mostyn AO on her appointment as Australia's New Governor General. This is an inspired choice. She will continue to make a wonderful contribution to the well being of all Australians.
At last, after years of advocacy by so many, and years after other nations took up the cause, these mandatory labels can help to make sure that no one is uninformed about the harm alcohol drinking can do to the baby in the womb.
As of this week, pregnancy health warning labels are now mandatory in Aust & NZ. A long-fought battle by many advocates, decision-makers, researchers, & policy-makers.
The labels will help raise awareness of the harms alcohol can cause during pregnancy.

It is not a ranking any nation could want. According to @FamilyStudies @AIFS Australia has the highest rates of gambling spend per capita in the world. Along with this goes #GamblingHarm at levels that seriously impact people's health and wellbeing and hurts their families.
In case you missed it, our latest report (https://t.co/un7T6fixca) showed that there is "a high-level of awareness in Australian society that gambling is a significant cause of harm, which must be addressed,” - @SharmanStone, AIFS Director
#COVID has continued to have an impact on #marriage rates in Australia. Even though there was an increase of 13% in 2021 compared to 2020, it was still significantly lower than the years before the pandemic. Check out the latest stats: https://t.co/ZsxtRHtwln
#InternationalWomensDay celebrating and recommiting to the effort so our next generation of girls live lives free of violence, prejudice and unpaid carer work that is undervalued by society while it expects these same women to boost Australia's productivity via the work force.
Our 20 year longitudinal data from growing up in Aust @AIFS_LSAC shows time Dads spent on #childcare is associated with gender egalitarian attitudes in their kids up to age 15. Most powerful influence was time dad spent on housework cf to mum, during the kids adolescence.
Behind the scenes 📸
Today I had a chance to brief the fed treasurer @JEChalmers + all state treasurers on the work the Albanese Government is doing to advance gender equality.
Strong consensus that this area is a national priority 👏💪
Shout out to @sammostyn who joined me!
And to support those findings #AIFS @FamilyStudies research has shown that child rather than parents' rights focussed Family Law is a necessary pivot to ensure children are not further traumatised by long and alienating procedures in the Family Court. procedures.
Young people in our study were unanimous in agreement that current responses to young victim-survivors of family violence are not adequate & do not meet their safety needs. There are significant opportunities to improve practice.

@AusAmbGender@SenatorWong@dfat Congratulations Steph, new @AusAmbGender. I am proud to be one of your predecessors. It was a real privilege to work across our region to see our Foreign Aid working to bring greater gender equality, to empower women economically and politically and to help eradicate #GBV.
