Doctors are included in the list of exempted professionals. Interestingly we're no longer explicitly listed.
Are you a doctor? Have you been on call for obstetrics? High probability of working when "just on call"!
I am aware of many who closed practices due to financial hardship from gov't cuts, or chose to move somewhere they didn't have to fear arbitrary attacks on their medical practice from unilateral gov't action. None have come back. And current med students are watching closely. 4/4
And before the bots ask, I'm aware of a grand total of 1 south zone physician who left because of a now rescinded vaccine mandate. Most of us traded text messages to surreptitiously get our boosters from pharmacy wastage before we were eligible. 3/4
We don't have enough family physicians. We have no child psychiatry care. We have a single obstetrician in the city. Our emergency dep't is struggling to have enough nurses and doctors on hand to stay fully staffed. A new cath lab is great if there's someone to work in it. 2/4
While this announcement for a future project is something we have long advocated the need for in the south zone, the timing feels a little bit like getting upgraded to first class while the plane's wings are on fire. 1/4

Obstetrical services in Lethbridge is currently being held together by a small number of dedicated physicians and nurses. The lack of permanent OBGYNs is leading to unsafe care for expecting mothers despite our best efforts. @AHS_media and @Alberta_UCP need to do more.
@heiltsuk_paleo@UCPCaucus This community needs more resources and more permanent OBGYNs. It’s the busiest place I’ve covered and I think we are lucky that something catastrophic like an avoidable maternal death has not yet occurred. This is not what safe patient care looks like.
@heiltsuk_paleo@UCPCaucus I’m currently locuming in Lethbridge currently, and the situation is dire most days. Although AHS has managed to scrounge together on call coverage, the lack of community OBGYNs is resulting in late presentations and inadequate antenatal care. It’s all very morally distressing.
Dear Danielle Smith:
I’m a Calgary OBGYN covering labour and delivery in Lethbridge today. This is a full-blown women’s health crisis and it’s about time you treat it as such.
Feel free to call our unit. I’m working for 48hrs. Happy to discuss strategies #ableg
To my family physician followers. I did a little math this morning. If your standard [03.03A & CMGP*1] had kept up with inflation since 2011, you would be 16.4% ahead of where you are now. Or...you could take 2 months off a year and still be making the same. You are not valued
Danielle Smith expressed concerns about how the unvaccinated were treated. I can personally assure her that we treated all of them in the ICU during the delta wave with kindness, dignity and respect, even while some of their families called us murderers and threatened our lives.
When you tear down others who are working hard to implement the direction they are given, it says everything you need to know about a person’s character. @ABDanielleSmith choosing to vilify public servants is the opposite of what we should expect of a leader. #ableg#abpoli#yeg
@susanjeanreid Why are you being asked? Simple:💰
These are "complex care plans" - have X diagnosis or Y treatment and the pharmacist can bill AB Health for formulating a "care plan"
UCP eliminated this code for family docs. More undervaluation of family medicine!
