@CliftonSellers Building a personal brand really comes down to finding something you can’t stop talking about, building in public, attracting your tribe, and making money from this.
Beats any other type of existence!
The people complaining about bad content on social media need to do an audit of what they read and react to.
I stopped liking or even reading 99% of political content, for example, because liking even 1 post will pollute my feed with 10+ similar posts.
The boring basics always beat the flashy productivity hacks.
Hemingway was successful because he wrote a lot!
He developed his unique style because he wrote a lot!
He had a successful personal brand because he wrote a lot!
If you’re a writer, write!
Write badly.
Write consistently.
Write about a topic you love and could talk about for hours.
Write to clear your head.
Write to help understand what you’re reading.
Write to clarify how you applied what you’re reading.
Just write!
Writing is a craft.
Email marketing is a strategy.
Nurturing a network is a skill.
AI is a tool.
I like to craft my sentences word by word, sometimes writing out longhand.
Each word is deliberately chosen by me, not me relying on AI.
It’s Monday.
If you’re not happy when you get up, now’s the time to begin building a better future.
Set your course to a star and let rational optimism fill your sails.
Skills that have nothing to do with money but are worth dedicating an immense amount of practice to:
- Charisma
- Metacognition
- Critical thinking
- Sitting with discomfort
- Articulating what you believe and why
- Changing your beliefs when presented with new information
Almost nobody actually practices these and it shows.
You only need 1 hour.
1 hour of building. 1 hour of writing. 1 hour of lifting. 1 hour of studying.
1 hour of any form of bettering yourself, because it quickly compounds.
1 hour feels like nothing until you look back 365 hours later and everything's changed.
Vanilla has over 200 flavour compounds. Synthetic vanilla has one.
The people who call it boring have only ever tasted the synthetic.
Real vanilla is one of the most complex flavours on earth. Smoke, dried fruit, leather, booze. Costs more per kilo than silver. Chefs build whole dishes around it.
Yet somehow the word became shorthand for dull.
Founders get told the same about their own story - too ordinary, too plain, nothing worth posting.
The person who called it vanilla has only ever read the synthetic version. The LinkedIn voice. The case study tone. The committee-approved summary of a life.
Sixteen years selling taught me every founder has the complex version in them. Most have never had anyone bother to pull it out.
The flavour was always there. Someone just decided it was cheaper to fake than to go looking for the real thing in you.
