Amazing fact from The Physiological Society Network Physiology webinar. If you measure 100 physiological parameters at 100 Hz for 1 day in 1 person, you’ll collect more data than there are base pairs in the human genome-and there are ~4 billion base pairs. 🤯

For the first time, I asked ChatGPT to generate an image of me (for teaching purposes). Thid is the result. I’m impressed with some of the accuracies and also slightly insulted 😂 though I did ask it to make me look worried

It’s Day 1 of our #ThermalPhysiology meeting @Bruneluni. Today, we’ll be exploring the body’s responses to thermal stress, beginning with the circulatory & respiratory systems with talks presented by Professor José Gonzalez-Alonso and Dr Pascale Kippelen.
Professor David Butterfield, who has resigned from teaching at Cambridge University, says students complaining of mental health problems are being excused from writing essays and meeting deadlines.
@vanbadham@guardian Ignorant, disingenuous, shorn of fact, research, and science. Everything wrong with modern “journalism”. Be sure to block me now-I wouldn’t want to pollute the little echo chamber I’m sure you want to cultivate.
Really pleased to be a guest editor for @JSportsSci for the special issue: Promoting high quality applied research in “real world” athletes.
Excited to be working with a great team on this project.
Please consider submitting your work to this special issue.
The International Olympic Committee and others involved in Olympic sport should read this paper, understand the implications and act upon it to avoid all biological males XY or XXY competing against biological females XX
Are you fatigued or just bored? 🥱
This new study investigated the effects of different types of mental fatigue on running performance 👟
11 participants completed a 3-km run after three separate 32 min conditions👇
1️⃣ Demanding Task (requiring working memory & task-switching) 🎯
2️⃣ Boring Task (Mackworth Clock watching) ⏰
3️⃣ Control condition (watching a nature documentary) 📺
Before and after the three cognitive tasks, participants also completed an attention-based task 🔍
Results:
The cognitively demanding task (1️⃣) led to poorer performance on the attention-based task 🧠
Whereas, the boring task (2️⃣) led to the slowest 3-km completion times⏳
This study highlights how different cognitive and physical tasks interact 🔁
Also, that boredom can negatively impact running performance. Choose your podcasts wisely 🎧👈
To my fellow educators: where you ever got the idea that we should teach young people that disagreement is an occasion for trauma that necessitates a "safe space" is a mystery to me. I cannot imagine teaching young people anything that is more dysfunctional and counterproductive.
On 9th May, 1945, Guernsey and Jersey, the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by the Nazis, were liberated after four years of occupation. We celebrate this each year, and imaginatively refer to it as Liberation Day. á la perchoine.

Unfortunately there are still some people around who think that blood markers of all sorts (from immune function to bone metabolism) are valid measures of fatigue in healthy athletes. So retweeting this review seems timely https://t.co/Avph3ObQHl
It has been a pleasure to work @UniWestScotland since 2012 and an honour to lead @UWS_Sport for the last 5 years. As I move on, there is now an incredible opportunity to lead the Division of Sport, Exercise and Health: https://t.co/hijldJYD3x 📆27/5/24 Any questions- please ask
Sounds interesting-prevalence of certain sources of bias in exercise science research is ⬇️, but still not ideal. Can’t help thinking many issues could be helped if we did less research, bigger & better research, & did it together.
