@Zoeycross1 I definitely agree from where you are coming from. Yes getting exposure as an artist is essential for success but when you work is being promoted for the sake of meeting a quota it doesn’t feel as well earned.#POPMUSW22
@hepquinton I completely agree with you! You can even see evidence of the quota today as many hit songs in Canada were not heard of in America. An example I can think of is “Ghost” by Fefe Dobson #POPMUSW22
I think it is important to enforce the quota for Canadian content. America has always dominated the music industry and without this quota many talented new Canadian artists could be lost amongst the popular American artists.#POPMUSW22
@KomranMackey Totally agree with you. Some songs today use such heavy sound effects and editing it’s extremely difficult to perform live. An example of a song that reminds be of this is Wolves by Kanye West. The song uses various techniques of voice editing throughout. #POPMUSW22
@Kgclarke2 I agree in that most people do enjoy a good concert. Unfortunately today live music performances may require travel and large expenses.Having easy access to a recorded version of songs helps fans who can’t access live performances still enjoy artists music. #POPMUSW22
I agree with Wald’s statement. Modern music editing and audio tune have made songs very difficult to replicate live by a cover band and be able still get the same feeling as the original. Seeing live performances are also more costly today then in the past. #POPMUSW22
@jenna__macinnis That’s absolutely right! It’s also so disheartening to see artist who stole the original music get more recognition, wealth and praise then those who actually came up with the music #POPMUSW22
@AminTabrizchi Totally agree with you! Sampling other artist music is still happening and if not properly credited, large lawsuits can arise.Unfortunately for African-American artist back then, these legal actions weren’t possible. #POPMUSW22
“schlock”music criticizes artists for stealing African-American artists music and making there own. Appreciating one’s art and creating your own take of it is a common practice in music but credit must be to the original artists. #POPMUSW22
I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice to not only make himself unique compared to other musicians at the time, but to also allow listeners to feel the emotion and passion he had within his music. #POPMUSW22
Streaming services like Spotify have given people access to millions of songs and podcasts. As a kid I use to sit by my Barbie radio and listen to my favourite songs on CD’s. Now I have any song I want at my fingertips. #POPMUSW22
Bluetooth headsets, in particular AirPods, have become a status symbol in todays society.Especially in the younger generation,Airpods are seen as a sign of popularity and status. If you have headphones with a cord you are considered uncool or lower class by your peers. #POPMUSW22
@bvreardon Totally agree! I find my recommend playlist are a great way to find songs from up and coming artists in music genres I like. I would not get this experience if I only listened to the radio as it tends to only play already popular artists and songs. #POPMUSW22
@Kgclarke2 I totally agree with you! I had similar experiences in my childhood. Once I got my CD I would play those 12 songs over and over. Today I could never imagine myself doing that cause I have so much access to a variety of songs. #POPMUSW22
An example of a ‘dumbed down’ form of music for me personally is Lil Uzi Vert’s song “Diamonds All on My Wrist” which revolves around luxury items with a catchy beat to accompany it. This song is made it be a hit not to revoke meaning or feeling to it’s listeners. #POPMUSW22
‘False needs’ have definitely been created more in the music industry today. Many songs today revolve around luxury lifestyles that are unattainable to the average person. Songs are more repetitive with senseless lyrics that may support a ‘dumbed down’ form of music. #POPMUSW22
#GNDR1000S2020 Females have been fighting for equality for over 100 years and we still have long ways to go. Women are still suffering from the wage gap , the discrimination of them working it stereotypical 'male' jobs, the unequal treatment daily just based on there gender.
@KaitlynGrandy Child care is a necessity for many parents in order to be able to provide for their family's, for low income family's the cost can be a big financial stress. Our society should be working towards making childcare more affordable for everyone. #GNDR1000S2020
@Josiemunuser I am so sorry you had to experience that. The fact that society has been conditioned us to victim blame is disgusting. We need to stand with victims not stand against them. #GNDR1000S2020
