@OliviaR34156685 I like your perspective, however, I argue different! Big artists such as those you mentioned have made their mark and are recognized, but a lot of new and upcoming talent do not have these same opportunities and I believe a quota will help them in gaining exposure. #POPMUSW22
@dchicasduena I completely agree! I am sometimes surprised when I found out an artist is Canadian because I am so used to hearing of American artists dominating the music scene. Enforcing a quota will allow CA artists to have a chance to succeed as well. #POPMUSW22
I think it is necessary to enforce a quota of Canadian content, especially for new and up coming artists. American music always seems to dominate so to ensure our Canadian talent has a chance in the already competitive industry, ensuring a quote will help them do this. #POPMUSW22
@Aidanc313 Hey Aidan, I agree! Even though music recordings with the best sound quality are so accessible, I would still much rather see a band live, than listen to their recordings. Seeing a band live gives a whole different experience and meaning to their songs! #POPMUSW22
@emjay0416 I agree, Emily! Going to live concerts are moments and memories you will remember forever, but you probably won’t remember and cherish the time you listened to a song in your car. #POPMUSW22
I disagree with Wald’s statement. I would much rather experience a live concert than listen to a recording. Although the use of technologies in recordings may alter the sound quality, you don’t get the same experience from a recording as you do enjoying live music. #POPMUSW22
@scdrover Very true! Since the original artists were POC, white artists did not feel the need to give them credit and did not care that they were stealing from them. Now, artists always give credit when covering a song because it is the right thing to do. #POPMUSW22
@JoanSwackhamer I agree with this Madelyn! White artists changed elements of African-American music to fit their style and essentially sold it as their own! This completely discredited the original artist and their musical talent #POPMUSW22
Culture theft by white middle class artists took the original credit away from black artists. By changing the lyrics and vocal timbre, “schlock rock” refers to white artists taking the culture out of the music. This act is unfair to POC and should be dismissed. #POPMUSW22
@caitmarieb I definitely agree with your point on displaying emotion in his music! It was almost as if he felt so much emotion in what he was singing he couldn't get his words out and this allowed him to create a personal relationship with listeners who related to these emotions #POPMUSW22
@Laurraamurray His breaking voice definitely stood him apart from other artists of his time! With so many emerging artists it was very important to make yourself noticeable and memorable and Ray Charles definitely achieved this with his infamous breaking voice technique #POPMUSW22
Ray Charles was a powerful artist and used a 'breaking voice' to portray the emotion he felt when singing. In his song "I've Got a Woman", Charles goes so high on some notes his voice breaks creating emphasis on the passion and emotion he poured into his work. #POPMUSW22
@woodfine_j Totally agree when you say ‘effortless’ !! I can do so many things with my AirPods while not getting tangled up in any chords. This easy accessibility can sometimes cause is to take technology for granted. #POPMUSW22
@emily_sharpe4 I use Apple Music and love the accessibility to all kinds of music! There are so many different streaming companies now it’s hard to know what the best choice is. I’ve spent so much money on Apple Music over the years that I might as well stick with it! #POPMUSW22
When wireless earbuds such as Apple Airpods came out I used to think those who had them were so cool and probably wealthy! Now, there are many different affordable brands of wireless earbuds that allow people to easily access their music. I couldn’t live without mine! #POPMUSW22
@KaitlynGathera1 This song is great example of the desire to be wealthy within popular music! Before I really stopped and understood the lyrics I would sing it strictly because of the catchy beat. It is, however, important to remember that money can’t buy happiness!
@PardyAbigail Totally agree! Every country song I know has some sort of reference to drinking and it sends the message that whatever stage of life you are going through or whatever night of the week it is drinking alcohol is appropriate when in reality this could create a lot of problems.
A ‘false need’ that has been created by popular music and media is the idea that you must go through heartbreak and hardships in order to learn and grow as a person. There are very few songs that talk about living happily with one person. #POPMUSW22
