What an active & productive period we are in! As SADC Snr Officials were meeting in Hre, I had the pleasure to accompany His Excellency the President, @edmnangagwa, to Kigali, to witness the inauguration of the President of Rwanda, HE , Paul Kagame.
This year's celebrations center around a vital theme: 'Securing Sustainable Water and Sanitation for Agenda 2063.'
Water is the foundation of our continent's development. From the majestic Nile to the Zambezi River, from Lake Kariba to vast underground aquifers, water sustains our people and shapes our cultures. To build the Africa we want, we must tackle challenges head-on: investing in modern infrastructure like dams and sanitation systems to ensure clean water for all, implementing smart water management to protect agriculture and industry from climate change, and fostering continental unity through shared resources and cooperation.
By doing so, we'll secure our future and honor our past. Happy Africa Day!
Today, July 1, 2026, our magnificent nation, embracing our Diaspora community with pride, comes together with the Nkomo family to celebrate the enduring legacy of the 27th anniversary of the passing of the revered national hero and Vice President of our Republic, Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo, who left an indelible mark on our history on this day in 1999.
Fondly remembered as "Chibwe Chitedza", "Umdala Wethu", or "Father Zimbabwe", the late Vice President dedicated his life to the relentless pursuit of liberation and selfless service to our people. With unwavering resolve, Dr. Nkomo embarked on his journey as a champion of the trade union movement, later entering the political arena with an unshakeable commitment to free our motherland from colonial rule.
As a towering nationalist and Pan-African freedom fighter, he embodied the spirit of selflessness, tirelessly advocating for love, unity, peace, diligence, and integrity in the service of our nation. The values of selflessness, unity, and diligence that defined our late liberation icon remain the foundation upon which our nation stands. It is essential that we honor this rich legacy and pass it on to future generations.
Let us pay tribute to his memory by continuing to forge a united and prosperous Zimbabwe, where all citizens can thrive. #FatherZimbabwe #JoshuaNkomo #UmdalaWethu #Zimbabwe #Unity #Legacy
I have launched Zimbabwe’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (2027–28). We will focus on peace, security, silencing guns, regional cooperation, and the women & youth agenda. Grateful for SADC & AU’s unanimous support.
