Henry Ossian Flipper, the first African American cadet to graduate from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1877. He was also the first Black man to be commissioned in the Army, he led buffalo soldiers of the 10th Cavalry. #BlackHistoryMonth
Matthew Henson was the first Black Artic Explorer. He was a navigator and huntsman that worked with the Inuit people.

On this day in 1956, Autherine Lucy became the 1st black student admitted to University of Alabama, after a long legal battle that included the Supreme Court.
Riots ensued and She was expelled 3 days later for "her own safetyโ. #BlackHistoryMonth
Ida B. Wells successfully sued the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Company after she was forcefully removed from a Tennessee train for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger.
The victory was later reversed by the Tennessee Supreme Court.
