#OTD May 16, 1885 Dr. Sophia B. Jones became the first Black woman to graduate from the University of Michigan Medical School and the first Black Canadian woman to earn a medical degree. Born in Chatham, Ontario in 1857, Jones had been denied access to the Toronto Medical School.
