My @ChurchTimes radio column this week is mainly an elegy for A Point of View, whose cancellation by the BBC is a great loss that can't make financial sense. (Link in next tweet).
Sad to see @BBCRadio4 ending A Point of View without fanfare. @RebeccaStott64 on her mother’s Kenwood, @AdamGopnik on honours, Michael Morpurgo’s “Tractors in Whitehall,” and Clive James’s “Clams are Happy”—words matter. Please @BBCSounds, make it all available. #APointOfView
@BBCRadio4 sad to see 'A Point of View' being dumped by R4, to be replaced by a history programme, which doesn't seem to be able to find a home elsewhere.
Why on God's earth are BBC Radio 4 ending "A point of view" ? Sunday mornings will never be the same. They have been excellent. So why @BBCRadio4 ? Just why ? Shutting down intelligent comment?
Very sad to be losing #APointOfView from @BBCRadio4 on Sunday mornings. This topical comment/essay offered a secular reflection that so aptly followed R4’s broadcast Sunday worship. Not to mention its almost sacred status given its longevity. What would Alistair Cooke have said?
Cannot believe that @BBCRadio4 has cut #APointofView. An intelligent, thoughtful essay on a topical issue, there is nothing else quite like it on radio. This morning’s final episode was the perfect swansong. https://t.co/EcT1ywgzY5
#BBCRadio4 An outstanding radio essay on the US election by James Naughtie this morning. Absolutely in the same class of writing and delivery as Alastair Cooke’s used to be. More Naughtie essays please BBC.
@back_the_BBC@BBC@BBCRadio4 Naughtie in his 4 episodes of Naughtie on America is just masterly. A political observer & wordsmith without equal. Thank u Jim so much. Should be required listening b4 5 Nov for all who love the US & love democracy. Go well in these momentous days.
Powerful article by the brilliant @LauraDockrill, I had the pleasure of working with Laura on #FourThought for @BBCRadio4 which you can listen to here https://t.co/R3PhdvL1bO
'It was alarming how fast my illness escalated into an emergency scenario'
@LauraDockrill couldn't wait to be a mother - but within days of her son's birth she had descended into a hellish spiral of paranoia and delusions 👇
Howard Jacobson - that was a fab Point of View. Your homage to Martin Amis was kindly.
Yet for me, you are a better and funnier writer than he. 👏 #bbcbh
