BREAKING - YOUR REACTION: Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (@jasmineforus) suggests that Thomas Matthew Crooks was not considered a threat, resulting in almost assassinating Donald Trump because he was male and white. She claims that in America, black people are considered a threat, but white people are not, even when they are holding long guns at rallies. That might be why Secret Service agents did not act until it was too late. WATCH
It's just so important to see things from a different angle.
So here is how an IT helpdesk experienced the #Crowdstrike outage. 🧵
Please, read this even if you no interest in IT or know nothing about it. It doesn't matter. It's about appreciation for those who keep us going.
Every. Time.
A conservative trustee in Lovejoy ISD explains that 4 challenged books can’t be judged based on out-of-context passages.
“When I first saw the request, some of the language was concerning to me. Then when I read the books in whole, I had a different perspective.”
I meet and talk to so many people who believe that ALL school librarians do is check out books and put them back once kids return them. Here is just SOME of what they ACTUALLY do. And not on this list: foster a lifelong love of reading. And what could be more important than that?
Kindergartners are using @Sphero Indi to do coding. It’s amazing to hear them already beginning to develop a geometric language for angles. It makes my fourth grade geometry heart so happy! @EMathRRISD @RRISDTech @BPEWildcats @LibPrairie
Librarians in @katyisd are being now required to read every book they want to order, then put it on a list for 30 days on a website. Recently the book Superconvergence was on a Katy order. It's 454 pages. When should they read that? https://t.co/U6kl2WwhGc
BREAKING: The March 2024 primaries will be where vouchers in #txed are decided for 2025. Not the November general, it will already be decided by then.
Feeling dispirited because of the failure of the #txlege and state leaders to pass safety funding or to increase the basic allotment (which would have funded a teacher raise), then read on to learn about dangers of political tribalism, and what you can do in the upcoming primaries in March of 2024
Political tribalism is unwarranted allegiance to a political party. The leaders in the #txlege who failed to enact any additional school safety or education funding this session, are counting on your political tribalism to cause you to forget/dismiss their failure. They know with this being a presidential year, you are most at risk to blindly follow party allegiance in the ballot box. You cannot do that if you are pro #txed
Here is my first suggestion: Vote for who you want for President, but VET every candidate in the #txlege regardless of party
Here is my second suggestion: Vote for the most pro public ed candidate in the primary of the party most likely to win your district.
Your vote in the primary does not require you to vote for that candidate or that party in the general election. But by voting in the primary of the party most likely to win your district, you can influence the selection of pro-public ed candidates.
Most people with moderate views don’t vote in primaries, but that is a mistake. The primary is where those with extreme views ALWAYS vote. Therefore the primary is where the candidates with the most extreme views are rewarded.
A failure to protect pro public ed candidates, and to replace pro voucher candidates in the March 2024 primaries will result in vouchers becoming a permanent part of #txed in 2025. Even if your view on vouchers is nuanced, you are still better served by a voucher program being developed by folks who also support #txed rather than being developed by folks who think you are "Educrats" or "Indoctrinators".
The Governor has already begun campaigning against those in his own party who rejected vouchers. The Pro-voucher PACS are already supporting their primary candidates to replace those who rejected vouchers.
You may not have the influence of the Governor or the money of a PAC, but you do have a vote-so use it in the primary 🙂
Happy 99th birthday, President Carter! You’ve inspired so many people around the world with your leadership, character, and commitment to service. Michelle and I hope you have a wonderful birthday and send our best wishes to you and Rosalynn.
Meet the book that triggered the @katyisd board of trustees to withhold thousands of taxpayer funded library books from 94,000 students, weeks before the start of school. 😱
INBOX: A group of Texas bookstores, including Austin-based @BookPeople is suing @teainfo, @TXSBOE and @TSLAC over HB 900, the bill requiring vendor who sell to schools to rate their books and which bans sexually explicit books. #txed
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.
