Thanks to everyone who's shared or responded to my MA research survey so far! It will run for another week, so if you can spare 5 minutes and have experience working with open source docs, I'd love to hear from you. #opensource#techcomm Link here: https://t.co/2NLeDOnA99
For my summer dissertation, I'm researching the practice of using open source documentation frameworks and their impact on documentation culture. If you have experience of using such a framework, I'd love to hear from you! https://t.co/2NLeDOnA99 #opensource#tcidul#techcomm
@cameronshorter That sounds like a really great initiative and could have some cross-over with my research, I'll definitely take a look. Thanks so much!

@cameronshorter to contributions from external sources, how they manage that process, and if there's any measureable impact on their internal documentation culture from using such a framework. 2/2
@cameronshorter Hi Cameron, of course. I'm referring to the application of open source development methods to the creation and maintenance of documentation. Open source tools might be part of it, but it's also about the organizations who have opened up their internal documentation 1/2
@ChloeKeaneTC It serves a few uses: to track my own work, for others to submit documentation requests, and to show the current status of a ticket. I encourage other teams to use it to track any product documentation work, so you could say they use it, when I remind them to. ๐
@ChloeKeaneTC I've never worked with a downtime policy myself either, but for wider visibility I maintain a board in JIRA that includes a prioritised list of outstanding items that people can pick up if they have availability.
@garethmpb Happy to help! I also highly recommend getting involved with different writing communities, attending online meet ups, virtual conferences, etc. I'm on the @writethedocs slack and there's always something going on and a lot you can learn from other writers. ๐
I wasn't sure why Google kept emailing me about converting a classic site to a new one. Finally looked into it and realized it was an assignment from a tech comm course I did 10 years ago ๐ Here's hoping my design skills have improved since then! #tcidul https://t.co/9zC4NhOngT
Some great examples of style guides and design systems in this article that I often refer to in my work. I've also realised throughout the MA course I subconsciously developed my own design system for assignments, and it definitely saves time! #tcidul
A #designsystem is a set of standards to manage design at scale by reducing redundancy while creating a shared language and visual consistency across different pages and channels https://t.co/5JAkm9E3Qs UX #designprocess
As someone who's dabbled in API documentation and will likely be writing more in the future, I really enjoyed this presentation. Key takeaway is that it helps to learn a computer language so you can better empathise with the audience using the API. #APIdocs#tcidul
A question for my fellow MA students who came into the course directly from completing their undergrad or as a career transition program: Which career path do you see yourself taking once you're finished? #tcidul
"Writing is an essential part of creating great experiences for our users." A nice overview of the power of UX writing - https://t.co/7jtvI31zko #tcidul
@jeffmurphy32 @jmugumyaUL I'm sure you're both right, I'm definitely better off prioritising the assignments. I thought I'd be proactive and try to get started on my dissertation project, but the context-switching isn't helping my already limited focus. ๐Thanks for the input!
2/2 As I try to spend the bank holiday Monday getting organised between working on course assignments and starting my dissertation project, I'm wondering how others are managing to stay/get motivated at this stage? All suggestions welcome. ๐ #tcidul
