No words for the dystopia Hong Kong has become, where remembering the Tiananmen dead is subversion, and good people go to prison for organising civic activities that would be applauded and anywhere else.
The @GOVUK says China is in “ongoing non compliance” with the still-in-force treaty that was supposed to prevent this kind of thing. But the 🇬🇧 hasn’t done anything about that non-compliance except leave it a few years and then return with a begging bowl.
By failing to respond meaningfully to violation after escalating violation, the UK allowed China to push the envelope with no consequences. The UK has a duty under the Sino British Joint Declaration to uphold Hong Kong’s autonomy. We did not discharge this duty. We allowed China to crush it, and did nothing about it.
These three convictions are on us.
🚨CENSURADA.

If your grandmother was Chinese, but your mother, you, and your kids are UK citizens who have never set foot in China, Beijing’s policy is that you’re Chinese. They will reject your foreign citizenship, and impose Chinese law upon you.
Astoundingly racist.
The CCP has openly racist citizenship policies that claim authority over people it considers Chinese, even if they are citizens of another country.
And Luke de Pulford says the world continues to tolerate it.
“Most people don’t know that Chinese law regarding citizenship is fundamentally racist.”
“Somebody who is born in China, let’s say they move to the United Kingdom and they have children in the United Kingdom.”
“And their children’s children are born in the United Kingdom.”
“Their children’s children’s children will still be regarded by the Chinese Communist Party as Chinese and they will claim dominion over them.”
“They will reject whatever nationality they have been given and they will assert Chinese law over those people.”
“It goes to the heart of the frankly ethno-nationalism of the Chinese Communist Party.”
“Totally extraordinary that the rest of the world just allows it.”

Our Universities have been seriously co-opted by China. Harvard took over six hundred million from China, much of it hidden from disclosure.
They hosted a Chinese paramilitary organization and allowed targeted harassment of students critical of the CCP.
Similar problems at Stanford. 🔽
Taiwan’s journey from dictatorship to open society has transformed its global standing. But far from prizing its democracy, self-interested politicians are breaking it https://t.co/KcwZpSLbLG
A bunch of deeply unimpressive politicians are paralysing Taiwan’s democracy for shameful, self-interested reasons. China is the only winner. My column on the KMT-led opposition antics holding Taiwan politics hostage.
