The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is proud to help keep Alex Mackiewicz’s legacy alive. Today, on what would have been his 16th birthday, Alex’s Legacy Compass and Victoria Cegielski donated laptops that will be presented to two deserving local students who embody the kindness and compassion Alex was known for.

These students will be selected with the help of our School Resource Officers. Alex’s Mother, Victoria said, “After Alex’s passing, I received a heartfelt letter from his classmates that read, ‘he made everything around him a better place. He made a difference in so many kids' lives.’ SROs also leave an indelible mark on students' lives. That's why we've partnered with them to recognize and promote compassion and care, selecting students who embody kindness and make a difference one day, one action, one smile at a time.”

The deserving students will receive their new laptops as they transition from elementary school to middle school. We are forever committed to always honoring Alex’s legacy. 💙

WRONG-WAY DRIVER STOPPED ON I-25

At approximately 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-25 in Castle Rock. When deputies attempted a stop, the driver accelerated to more than 80 mph while continuing against traffic.

Working with the Lone Tree Police Department, deputies shut down the interstate ahead of the vehicle and safely ended the incident with a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Deputies observed multiple indicators of possible impairment. Charges are pending.
During their investigation, deputies discovered the male suspect, not from Douglas County, has an extensive criminal history in Colorado, including 7 prior Driving Under the Influence or Driving While Ability Impaired charges, spanning over decades. At the time of this incident, records show the suspect had a suspended license.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is honored to help kick off the 2026 Colorado Gang Investigators Association Conference.

Sheriff Darren Weekly opened the event this morning by reminding attendees that “your work is critical, information shared at the right time can solve a murder, dismantle a criminal network, protect an officer, and prevent the next act of violence.”

COGIA President and DCSO Deputy Shawn Sanchez welcomed investigators from across the country, emphasizing that “It is an honor to stand before professionals who have dedicated their careers, protecting communities, supporting victims, and confronting the complex challenges associated with gangs and organized criminal activity.”

4 Texas Homicide Suspects Arrested by U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Northglenn

Last Monday, fugitive Gabriel OLIVO-OLIVO was arrested during a joint-tactical operation conducted by @CSP_News Special Operations and Response (SOAR) and members of the U.S. Marshals Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) Denver Metro team. OLIVO-OLIVO was wanted by @LewisvillePD for 1st Deg Murder in connection to a deadly Sept 11 shooting outside of Dallas.

OLIVO-OLIVO and others fled Texas and were located in Northglenn by COVOTF Deputy U.S. Marshals (DUSMs) and Task Force Officers (TFOs) from @dcsheriff, @Colorado_DOC, @BldrCOSheriff, & @GoldenCOPS. The joint-arrest operation resulted in the safe apprehension of OLIVO-OLIVO in addition to 3 others who have now been charged in connection with the homicide.

Once all suspects were in custody and the residence was secure, members of the Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) from @USMSDenver, @HSI_Dallas, @HSIDenver, & @FBIDenver executed a search warrant and located a semi-auto handgun and other evidentiary items connected to the murder.

Gabriel OLIVO-OLIVO, Erian ESPINOZA-MARTINEZ, Carly GUERRERO-AGUERO, and a juvenile suspect have all been charged in connection to the homicide as well as a 5th suspect who was arrested in Texas.

Early Sunday morning, our deputies responded to assist @CRPoliceCO with a fleeing robbery suspect. Thanks to a quick response and precise execution, our teams successfully deployed the Grappler Police Bumper to end the pursuit safely.

One suspect tried to run but was caught after a short foot chase. Both suspects were taken into custody without further incident. Outstanding teamwork by all officers and deputies involved! 🚔👏

Douglas County residents are receiving phone calls claiming they missed jury duty, and they owe a fine or face immediate arrest. This is widespread fraud scamming victims out of millions of dollars.

Real court, federal, and law enforcement officials will NEVER ask you to withdraw cash, pay over the phone, use gift cards, use payment apps such as Venmo, PayPal, or Zelle, or deposit money into cryptocurrency ATMs.

✨️ How the Scam Works✨️

Impersonation: The caller pretends to be a local police officer, sheriff's deputy, or U.S. Marshal. Law enforcement phone numbers may be spoofed.

Intimidation: They claim you missed a summons, violated the law, or have an active arrest warrant. They tell you there is a gag order and not to hang up.

Fake Proof: They may follow up with spoofed caller IDs or text/email fake arrest documents.

Demands: They pressure you to pay an immediate "fine" using payment apps, wire transfers, gift cards, cash deposits into cryptocurrency ATMs.

Identity Theft: They frequently ask for Social Security Numbers, copies of driver's licenses, balances in bank accounts, and account numbers.

🚩 Red Flags to Watch For🚩

Phone Demands: Courts communicate via U.S. mail for official matters and NEVER call to demand payment.

Arrest Threats: Real officers will not call to warn you about an impending arrest or threaten you to stay on the line.

Unusual Payment Methods: Government agencies do not accept gift cards, cryptocurrency, or payment apps.

If you receive a call like this, HANG UP and call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office immediately at [phone]. Do not provide any personal information or send money through any means.

Douglas County Deputies and South Metro Fire are responding to flash flooding in the Meridian and Lincoln area. Several roads may be impassable.

Vehicles can quickly become stranded in standing water. Please avoid flooded roads and never attempt to drive through flooded areas.

Avoid unnecessary travel to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles and stay safe from hazards.

BURGLARY ARREST DURING PENLEY FIRE

🚫Not in Douglas County! If you come here to commit crimes, we WILL catch you and we WILL arrest you.

While law enforcement and first responders were focused on the nearby Penley Fire earlier this week, a burglar decided to make himself at home in an unoccupied house currently on the market near Roxborough. The homeowner received several alerts from his security camera system and immediately called 911.

The suspect also allegedly used his car to block a gate and road, preventing law enforcement and neighbor access, and obstructing an evacuation route during the Penley fire.

Thanks to the homeowner’s detailed description and quick thinking, deputies were ready. When the suspect left the residence on an e-bike, deputies caught him leaving the scene. The suspect has been identified as 40-year-old Tony Hoang, a Denver resident, and is facing multiple charges, including burglary.
