@CanyonDriver 2/2 You can take on salary that gets off your books in a year but allows you to draft & trade for 3-4 high end contributors. Don’t have to be injured guys. CJohnson and Struss for instance.
They could also send offer sheets to RFAs because there’re no UFAs to fear losing
@CanyonDriver 1/2 The reality the Lakers are facing is there is no single desirable UFA in this market to commit long-term money to. Not a one. That’s why I suspect they would be willing to treat the cap space as a way to expand their draft asset pool, to then get better via draft and trade
@CanyonDriver More of a scenario where the Lakers get a second 1st for taking on some money. One of the things you can do with the flexibility of the Lakers cap is take short term bad money for draft picks, draft to fill certain positions, then do a multi player trade to fill other positions
@zackeisen21 I would have liked them to add a vet WR and young TE, but honestly this team looks about the same level as 2022 going into the season.
OL: 2026>2022
RB: 2026>>2022
WR: same. Juju=RR, MVS=XW, Thornton>JWat
TE: 2022>>2026
DB: same-ish
IDL: 2026>>2022
Edge: 2022>2026
LB: 2022>2026
@SamQuinnCBS Personally I’m more so eying Mo Diawara given the two way flashes…..
Think Knicks will look to pay Shamet, Mitch Rob and pretty much keep everyone in this current playoff rotation.
I’d throw a complicated offer sheet at him. Those are the kind of margin moves OKC has thrived in
@KeithSmithNBA And the team has a chance to be just as or even more competitive as it was in his previous time, all because of what they got back when they traded him. Crazy how things tend to go
@missilemendoza@SamMonsonNFL Say out of the 60 snaps he plays in the game, the rusher gets 1 sack resulting in loss of 5-10 yards
But then he also gets 3-4 non-sack pressures that result in the offense losing 3-4 opportunities to get a first down.
Why isn’t that second impact just as hyped?
@missilemendoza@SamMonsonNFL I’ve just always been fascinated by the fact that Dlinemen earn their reputations based on a metric that is simply not replicable on a snap by snap basis and averages out to about 1/game for even the elites; when there’s another metric that is much more replicable
@CanyonDriver Something the Lakers could do is overpay for Kessler. Be creative with an offer sheet that scares off the Jazz. Use most of the cap space to solve C while staying under the aprons, then use draft assets to fill wing needs even if that takes you into or above the aprons
@InHarmsWay19 It’s possible they evaluated where Wiley and Briningstool are currently (in terms of fit with what they want from their TEs) vs the TEs in this draft after Sadiq and decided to stick with what they have. Personally I’m a fan of drafting for talent irrespective of need
@infopocalypse1@Drive1020@Conner_DKC 29th pick in his class. Expecting Myles, Micah, or Will Anderson level of development isn't realistic. That would be an anomaly, and very few of those happen in the league. He's a good player & has been a very productive pressure generator. Just need a speed guy opposite of him
@Drive1020@infopocalypse1@Conner_DKC For what it's worth, Karlaftis was effectively ranked about 14th by NFL execs, coaches, and scouts at the beginning of last season in an ESPN survey. Was unfortunate to play injured the year he got paid and now everyone is down on him. I still have stock

@SamQuinnCBS I don’t understand why this is complicated. Have 2 plans. 1 with Bron taking a drastically low salary but with a competitive team; another with him taking a big amount but basically running it back. Present both to him. Use his answer as another data point to make your decision
@jjmaples55 Millions relate to: "An orphan my pops left me and often my momma wasn't home; Could not stress to me I wasn't grown; 'Specially on nights I brought somethin' home to quiet the stomach rumblings; My demeanor, 30 years my senior
My childhood didn't mean much, only raisin' green up"
@RealMNchiefsfan I think Chiefs winning so much has dulled fans’ awareness of how difficult and rare winning even 1 🏆 is. It’s the reason many consider ‘23 a failed class despite Rice’s huge role in getting a chip. Like if they all retired after the superbowl, it’d still be a successful class
@RealMNchiefsfan For a team like the Chiefs (with a generational QB), imo you start with winning the 🏆 and work backwards. If a class plays an outsized role in getting you 1 🏆, that’s immediately a successful class. Even if they’re all 1-year wonders. Then conf 🏆, divisional, and so on
@RealMNchiefsfan Man, Rice was pivotal to the Chiefs getting to the Super Bowl his rookie year. Like, we were completely dead in the waters with KToney and his cast of bumbling idiots till Rice stepped up. Chiefs don’t get to the superbowl without him. That alone makes it a successful draft imo
