The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) is deeply concerned by the rising cases of femicide, intimate partner violence, sexual violence and other forms of gender-based violence across the country.

The recent tragic deaths of women and girls in different parts of Kenya are not isolated incidents. They reflect a deeply troubling and growing crisis that threatens the lives, dignity, safety and constitutional rights of women and girls.

LSK unequivocally condemns all forms of violence against women. Violence is never private; it is a gross violation of human rights and an affront to the values of our Constitution, including the rights to life, dignity, equality and security of the person.

We call upon the National Government, investigative agencies, the Judiciary, Parliament, County Governments and society at large to urgently strengthen prevention, accountability, survivor protection and access to justice.

The continued loss of women’s lives through violence cannot and must never be normalized.

Through its Gender Committee, the @LawSocietyofKe remains committed to monitoring cases, advocating for accountability, and pursuing justice for victims and affected families.

The Law Society of Kenya continues to strengthen partnerships that expand access to justice and deepen civic engagement. I was pleased to engage with the International Development Law Organisation and the Hindu Council on areas of shared interest.

These conversations explored collaboration in advancing legal empowerment, promoting inclusive dialogue and supporting community-centered approaches to justice. A strong legal system is one that listens, partners and responds to the diverse realities of the society it serves.

Held a productive engagement with Africa Merchant Assurance Company (AMACO) on emerging concerns within the insurance and enforcement space, particularly around the conduct of auctioneers and the need to strengthen oversight in execution processes.

Our discussions focused on enhancing accountability, improving regulatory frameworks, and ensuring enforcement is carried out lawfully, fairly and with due regard to the rights of all parties. The Law Society of Kenya remains committed to collaborative, solution-driven engagements that uphold professional standards and strengthen public confidence in the justice system.

Today, the Law Society of Kenya, led by President Charles Kanjama SC, Vice President Teresia Wavinya and AML Committee Convener and Council Member Mr. Aseso Omollo, held a consultative meeting at the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC)offices together with the Director General, Mr. Naftali Rono, alongside their respective teams.

The meeting focused on key issues affecting legal practice, regulation and compliance, particularly in relation to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) and Countering Proliferation Financing (CPF).

Both institutions expressed appreciation for the strong collaboration and progress achieved in previous years, and reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and strengthening this cooperative relationship in the coming term.

The Law Society of Kenya further committed to advancing compliance within the legal sector in line with the existing statutory and regulatory frameworks.

Today, I took oath as the 52nd President of the Law Society of Kenya; an honour I receive with deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility.

I am grateful to the members of our noble Bar for the trust and confidence you have placed in me. Your faith is not lost on me; it is a call to serve with integrity, courage and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

I pay tribute to the outgoing Council for their service and dedication and I acknowledge all who offered themselves for leadership.
Our strength as a Society lies in our unity of purpose, even amidst diversity of thought.

As I assume office, I do so with a clear resolve: to foster a more responsive and progressive Law Society; one that stands firm in the defence of justice and the protection of constitutional rights.

I invite every member of the Bar to walk this journey with me as we shape a Society that reflects our highest ideals.

Let us rise, together. God bless LSK. God bless Kenya.
