@mattwridley I’ve spent 10 mins looking at the GWIS website. The reason European burnt area so low this year is because of Russia. On average Russia accounts for 14.3 m ha of the 16.5 m ha burnt in Europe. This year Russia running at 25% of usual burn rate.
@edinhelp A traffic sign pole at the bottom end of India Street has been bumped into. It’s wobbly and thus a potential hazard to cars & pedestrians. Thanks.
@TheRestHistory The Japanese military could rival the European powers in the moustache department. This general spent time in St Anton learning Alpine mountain warfare techniques.
@maskeddave@MarinaHyde@richardosman As you mentioned Poirot why can’t the Bond films follow a similar arc and do remakes of the existing films either in historic time or updated to present date (as Cumberbatch updated Sherlock Holmes).
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret How can politicians expect everyone to alter their lifestyles for the common good when they don’t do so themselves. Green MPs not having heat pumps or electric cars, net zero proponents spending their year jetting around the world ?
@RestIsPolitics@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret Why can’t a political party giving a clothing allowance to its leader (if such things are actually needed) rather than the clothes being paid for directly by a donor (who probably wants influence in return).
@MerrynSW@Matthew64715829 Notice how Labour (see latest theatrical play NYE) have taken all historical credit for creation of NHS rather than the Liberals (Beveridge).
@MerrynSW@MartinG40588738 Always suspicious when the trust they use to explain this problem is a very obscure private equity trust. Why not just use a standard large cap equity fund if there is actually a problem with over counting fees ?
@edinhelp I’m trying to renew my residents parking permit but when I log onto system it only shows an expired permit from a year ago and not my current permit (that expires end of Feb).
@liversedge Very well thank you. Just stopped posting apart from the occasional foray. Still reading everyone else’s tweets though. It’s not quite the fun platform it used to be though…..
Auberon Waugh tells a story of the “eccentricity” of Sir Keith Joseph. They were sitting next to each other in a West End barber’s when Sir Keith suddenly leapt up and raced out mid-hair cut.
