Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare attended a church service at the Ebenhaeser Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mariental on Sunday, where he contributed N$3,000 towards the church’s Sunday School programme.

Accompanied by Mariental Mayor Ethel Isaacks, Ngurare quoted the Bible verse, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these,” saying the contribution reflects the government's commitment to investing in the country’s children.
He described children and young people as the future of Namibia and stressed that leadership carries the responsibility of improving the lives of all citizens.

“As leaders in government, it is our obligation to change the lives of our people, but we cannot do it alone,” he said.

Ngurare said President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah had directed last year that the government should work closely with stakeholders, including churches and traditional authorities, to ensure a united approach to national development.

He encouraged political, community and traditional leaders to remain attentive to the needs of the people they serve and to work together in addressing societal challenges.

Addressing the children, the Prime Minister urged them to obey the Fourth Commandment by honouring their parents, saying respect for parents and elders lays the foundation for responsible citizenship and a stronger nation.

He further reflected on Namibia’s pre-independence era, noting that people were once required to carry identity documents at all times and movement was restricted. He said that in contrast, Namibians today enjoy freedom of movement and therefore encouraged children to value this freedom and continue to uphold the Fourth Commandment as part of building a disciplined and responsible society.
