Big crowd at Wangaratta Landcare and Sustainability ‘electrification of everything forum this morning. This Indi region is getting serious and achieving a lot to meet our inevitable future @helenhainesindi @TotalRenewYack #renewables#rural @VoicesForAU
It's referred to as 'type change', but I call it ecological collapse: loss of forests due to too frequent fires.
We fought this fire in 2020. A few years on, much of the canopy is dead, with very limited seedling restocking.
'We know long-unburnt mountain forests in south-east Australia are far less fire-prone than more recently burnt areas.'

Western thinking focuses on modification of the environment; a top-down "subdue the earth" approach. In contrast, First Nations cooperated with natural processes like these for aeons; we can learn to do the same.

Like us, our friends @animaljusticeAU want to stop hundreds of #GreaterGliders being killed, and their hollow #habitat trees incinerated, in #Strathbogie forest planned burns.

Climate change is the biggest threat to our security.
For $368 billion (the price of 8 submarines) Australia could get 20 million x $11,000 EV subsidies, get gas out of every home in the country, and still have $100 bn left over for some side projects.

A gas exporting nation set to import gas? You can’t make this up.
The real answer is to #electrifyeverything - ditch fossil fuels and the nasty energy bills that come with them

🤓 ~12 yrs ago south australia's electricity emissions began to plummet — by replacing all coal & ½ their gas with wind & solar.
electricity emissions:
• intensity: 734 → 235 kgCO₂e/MWh (⬇️68%)
• per capita: 6.2 → 1.9 tCO₂/year (⬇️69%)
now 69% renewable, not stopping. 📈

Strathbogie State Forest was recently declared an Immediate Protection Area by @VictorianLabor in recognition
of its importance for protecting the nationally endangered
Southern Greater Glider.
Yet
@DEECA_Vic@DanielAndrewsMP
are planning to burn it.

I never again want to hear about the cost of action on climate change or adaptation - we could retrain every fossil fuel worker and buy enough water bombers for bushfires for the price of those subs.
This is not natural. It’s a legacy of Nationals mismanagement of rivers over decades. Altered flow regimes, clearing riparian zones, agri-chemicals, invasive species - the problems are clear. Part of the solution is voting the Lib/Nats out. #nswpol

This is appalling, but for any city of 5 million plus, if the call went out “can all nazis please assemble at Parliament House” and only 30 completely despicable humans turn up … you’re doing pretty well as a community
