Hello Founders and CEOs. I think it's time we have this conversation.
I had been thinking about announcing it for quite some time.
I have decided that I will build your most important feature in your product for FREE!!
No strings attached, no upsells, nothing. Just pure value.
But I can only do this for 5 people per month.
So go ahead and DM or reply and if I like your product, I will deliver your feature completely for FREE!!
When researchers studied developers after Google entered their app categories, many didn't die.
They innovated more, pivoting deeper into niches the platform wouldn't bother with.
Absorption pressure, survived, becomes specialization pressure.
My $200 flat-rate AI plan absorbed five hundred dollars' worth of my startup's tokens. That subsidy won't last.
If your margins only work at today's prices, you don't have margins. You have a promotional window.
"If our version is genuinely better, we'll win."
You're racing the company that builds your engine, on a track they own.
Better-but-bundled-against loses.
Different-and-elsewhere survives.
Their version is free or bundled, with distribution to hundreds of millions, in the interface users already have open.
Yours is better in ways that require explanation. And explanation is a distribution tax you pay per customer.
Sherlocking is not an AI disease — Apple's been doing it since 2002.
What AI changed is the cycle:
Apple took years to absorb a feature; a model release does it in a quarter, by accident.
Nobody held a meeting about killing my product. Video understanding just arrived.
Your traction, visible through their API logs, is their market research.
Nobody at the lab needs to wish you ill.
The machine eats what shows demand, and you volunteered the demonstration.
The model provider is not your competitor. Competitors fight you on roughly equal footing. The platform owns your footing.
It sets your costs, defines what your product can do, and reserves the right to change either one whenever it likes. You are a tenant.
Tile invented the Bluetooth tracker and built the category for a decade.
Apple's AirTag absorbed it with hundreds of millions of iPhones as finding-antennas — a mesh Tile could never build at any price.
Tile sold to Life360 for a fraction of its earlier value.
Apple was fined €1.84 billion in March 2024 for the anti-steering behavior Spotify had documented for years.
Regulation is slow and varies by geography.
But the platform's lawyers fear it more than they fear your roadmap.
In January 2025, DeepSeek released a frontier-class model under the MIT license.
Within a year, Chinese open models had grown from roughly 1% to around 15% of global usage.
The power to credibly walk away is what keeps every landlord in every market honest.
