Eugene Braunwald (1929–2026) was more than a giant of cardiolog, he helped build modern cardiovascular medicine itself.

A Jewish refugee who fled Nazi persecution in Vienna as a child, he went on to transform medicine through groundbreaking research, visionary leadership, and generations of mentorship.

From the NIH to Harvard, from Brigham and Women’s Hospital to the TIMI Study Group, his impact shaped how we understand and treat heart disease across the world.

Few physicians change a field. Fewer still define an era.

His legacy will continue to beat in every cath lab, coronary unit, and cardiology textbook for decades to come.

May his memory be a blessing.

All I can say is that you haven't been exposed to how modern hospitals work in close collaboration with these departments. Anatomy is now conducting work shops aided by virtual reality and wet labs for training general surgeons and those from super specialities like CTVS. Medical Biochemistry and physiology are involved in cutting edge clinical research. Microbiology is involved in infection control and antibiotic policies of hospitals in close collaboration with infectious disease dept and also vaccine research. Clinical pharmacologists take active part in pt management. So ...
