Just wrapped up a full RFM customer segmentation project 📊

Took a genuinely messy retail dataset (missing IDs, inconsistent dates, dirty prices) through Excel cleaning → SQL analysis → Tableau dashboards.

Biggest surprise: one customer with 88 orders (highest frequecy) didn't even crack the top 100 by spend (frequency ≠ value).

If your plan is to learn every tool that works with data before you can call yourself a Data Engineer, you will never become one.

The list is endless.

A Data Engineer is defined by the ability to solve data engineering problems:

Design a data system.

Move data reliably.

Transform and model it.

Test its quality.

Deploy the pipeline.

Monitor it.

Make the data available for use.

You don’t need to know every tool.

You need strong foundations, practical experience and the ability to learn the right tool when the work demands it.

Tools will continue to change.

The trade remains.

Don’t wait until you know everything before you start calling yourself a Data Engineer. You will never know everything.
