Today we celebrate 10 years of setting up @Shopify stores for free! π We were going to be millionaires at this point. We were going to begin our YouTube channel πΊ We were going to start writing a book about the journey π Instead of all that, we made a @grok slop cake. Enjoy π
ATTN π’ All online sellers of anything : I don't need 15 emails when I buy something from you, or 10, or even 5. 2 is fine. 1 telling me you got the order. 1 confirming when you sent it. Even then, make the 2nd optional. Also, fuck your stupid drip emails (unsubscribed)π
As someone that builds @Shopify sites (for free), I would be ecstatic if work was optional. +1 for UHI. That said, if work actually becomes optional, does money go away? If money goes away, what mechanisms will facilitate obtaining resources (food, shelter, clothing, etc)? πΈ
@davidsven Shutup and take my money! I have wanted this since I was too young to speak. Hope this actually comes to be one day. At the very least, maybe some pockets, select cities or states that ban both outright.
True. They do indeed kind of have a "limited on purpose " perspective, imposing bumper bowl barrier rails to force simplicity, even if not desired. This has always felt wrong to me as well.
AI, well that's just an exponential runaway growth of possibility, that I'm fairly certain most everyone is overestimating in the short term and underestimating in the long term. Personally, I think eventually, everything in both the pixels and atoms worlds will just be, "Press this magic button and digital god will make it for you for free or close to free." We're a ways away from that still, but it's on the horizon, maybe in Shopify's case, even in the Horizon :)
From my perspective, there should effectively be two levels of customization within the Theme Customizer itself. As it stands there is just the bumper bowl K.I.S.S. guides (customizer) for merchants, and the wild-wild-whatever (code editor) for devs. Now with the visible_if conditional logic finally available, theme devs should take the plunge of forking everything π΄ Here's our "play by the mother-shop rules" for exposure and integrated sales, and here's our underlying, more customizable and complex, but still user friendly variation. Guess you'd have to name them differently or something, but the core code could still be the same.
βοΈThis is the way.
@TRPage_dev It will be interesting to see how everything unfolds. The theme store has always felt like a stop gap, to fill in features and functionality where the core CMS falls short. For that reason and AI, I think it's going the way of the dodo, but we'll see . . .
Grok not being able to run HTML for quick live mockups is disappointing to say the least. Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini can all do this, and they do it rather easily. @grok@xai
@BrandGrowthOS@_cntxt@DavidOndrej1 Decade later, Tim Urban's insights in this Wait But Why article on AI are still potently poignant.

π§ Iceberg Functionality = Simple small surface setup for an easy to use experience + vastly varying voluminous advanced options buried below for devs and DIY'rs.
Horizon feels like the correct path, but the Sections & Blocks it contains feel like the wrong vehicles. Cascading conditional visible_if overrides with Theme Settings > Sections > Blocks are needed. Flexible options should supplant design specific sections too.
@byosko@acroll Human Connection in an AI run world will inevitably become one of the most important currencies, perhaps the most. Experiences + Meaning + Fulfillment also seem rather valuable in a post-labor world of abundance where all basics (food, shelter, clothing) are effectively free.
@TaraBull808 The Substance, in three parts. 1 = Drama, 2 = Elevated Horror, 3 = Crazy Left Turn at Albuquerque into B-Horror. All equally 10/10 for what they are.
Value Proposition = Free + Live store set up, design and training for Shopify merchants. Proof = Hundreds of positive reviews and examples.
Hmmm . . . *thinksHard* . . . . feels clear and simple, right? Am I missing something or overthinking? Typing when I should be working?
