@jamiesense_@SamCKx A consultation like the one the government ran just recently? The one where the overwhelming message from parents was to regulate access for under-16?
@AledHughes84@SamCKx Should children also be able to buy tobacco and alcohol then? How about hardcover porn, should kids be able to watch that? Maybe we should let them drive too? Just leave all those decisions up to the parents?
@GJB77DBAD@SamCKx Yeah, if curfew story is correct then it undermines what could have been a government win. Which, given this government, means the story is probably correct.
@DanielPDykes@Integral_Views My experience is that most UK parents want something to be done about the prevalence of social media amongst kids. Whether this is the correct 'something' almost matters less than it finally being anything.
@BasedMikeLee The European mind understands bread and circuses perfectly well. We invented it. The tragedy is, the American mind cannot comprehend what comes next.
@ListerLawrence The question appears predicated on the assumption that becoming a green energy leader wouldn't be a win on its own terms, climate aside. Which is incorrect. The value of energy independence and market leading tech that other nations want to buy is huge.
@iBen91@ListerLawrence China install more renewables than the rest of the world combined. They are no longer part of the challenge, they are part of the solution. America on its current trajectory however...
@the1andonlyjno@ListerLawrence China is rolling out more renewable energy than the rest of the world combined. It's no longer accurate to paint them as the problem. It's a lazy and outdated argument.
The bigger problem is USA. And there, by leading by example, the UK can feasibly make a difference.
@BG_Californian@AndrewPerpetua Do you know how much money Tesla makes? They have a Price to Earnings ratio well over 300x. That's another company built on hype whose stock price has little in common with its fundamentals. Musk is a hype machine. And his trillionaire status is vaporware.
@X_________man@AndrewPerpetua@MDusty663079@Steel_penguinX That's not what's happening with Spacex. They have no clear path to ever reaching their current valuation. It's a company that has done some cool stuff (off the back of American taxpayer money) that has been hyped into tulip fever. They are not Amazon.
@lewis_goodall It's fake money. If he tried to draw even a small portion of that down then we'd all quickly see he's really not a trillionaire. He's just a majority shareholder in a couple of overvalued stocks.
@oomfatuated@kartographien@ednewtonrex@birchlse Of course that's your opinion, you're American.
The assistant should say 'I can only advise you on UK job opportunities' or something to that effect. Quite simple.
@kartographien@ednewtonrex@birchlse It's a UK jobseekers service offered by UK government. Designed with the primary purpose of getting UK citizens into UK jobs. Hope that helps.
