Jaysingh himself was wishful for treaty.
In his letter to Aurangzeb june 1665, he initially assumes position of denial of Shivaji maharaj's suggestion to invade Bijapur instead, but later justifies the same to Aurangzeb in same letter.

📌 Chhatrapati Shivaji’s terror in Oman (Middle East).
🌊 The story of the unmatched feat of the Marāṭhā navy under Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja.
———————————————
According to the new records, in 1665, four of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s ships entered the port of Muscat. Upon their arrival, the local Arab Imam (the ruler there was called the Imam) seized all four ships, confiscated the cargo, and imprisoned the crew. Not stopping there, he prepared a fleet of four large ships and nearly 14 small vessels to attack the western coast of India. The Imam’s name was Saif bin Sultan. History does not yet know why he took such a sudden step. But what followed was nothing short of unprecedented. When he learned that Chhatrapati Shivaji’s navy consisted of more than a hundred ships, he cancelled his plan and hid in the port of Muscat with his belongings!
Translation:
The Imam of Muscat seized four of Shivaji’s ships in his harbor, imprisoned the people on board, and declared the goods confiscated. He prepared a fleet of 4 large ships and 12 to 14 frigates (small ships) to confront Shivaji on the Indian coast. However, upon understanding that the Shivaji’s naval strength exceeded a 100 frigates and ships, he retreated with his equipment and kept his vessels inside the port.
It is difficult to put into words the feeling of reading this for the first time. Among the Indian rulers of that era, with the exception of the Siddis, few maintained a full-time combat navy. But the Siddis' reach was limited. Major powers like the Adilshahi and the Mughals did not have their own dedicated combat navies, which allowed European powers to dominate the seas. To protect the western coast from the Siddis and Europeans, Maharaj did not just build a fleet; he established an "Armar." The uniqueness begins with the word itself. Armar is not derived from Sanskrit or Persian; it comes from the Spanish-Portuguese word "Armada," meaning a fleet of warships—not just any collection of vessels. This navy was established in 1657. By 1665—less than a decade later—Chhatrapati Shivaji had conducted the Basrur expedition, sent merchant ships to foreign lands, and the sheer terror of his navy had struck the Arabs of Muscat.
These Arabs were no ordinary sailors. For nearly a hundred years, the Portuguese had dominated the Omani coast; the Arabs broke that dominance in 1650. In the following years, especially after 1670, they launched fierce attacks on Portuguese territories in India. There were very few states in Asia that could be called true maritime powers—these Arabs were one of them. While they attacked India without fearing a powerful enemy like the Portuguese, they never harassed the Marathas. Later, in 1679, records show the Marathas even assisted the Arabs against the Portuguese. This was driven by the strategy of "the enemy's enemy is a friend," as well as the realization the Arabs had in 1665 regarding Maratha strength. Contact with Muscat remained intact; many ships traveled from the Konkan coast to Muscat every year, and mentions of "Muscati Tarandes" (Muscat ships) are found in several Marathi letters.
It is essential to draw attention once again to how significant this event is. Shivaji Maharaj’s political career began in the Pune region—despite having no initial knowledge of coastal geography, he built a formidable navy. Its influence was so great that even the fierce Arabs of Muscat feared it.
Everyone is a "lion" in their own territory, but the awe of Swarajya reached thousands of kilometers away, within a decade of its inception! This adds another magnificent chapter to the glorious events of Shivcharitra. As Saint Ramdas once said, "One should remember the valor of Shivaji"—this is a living testament to that.
While there is a common sentiment in Maharashtra that Maratha history is ignored at the central level, fortunately, this is being recognized. In the new NCERT curriculum, the Class 8 Social Science Part 1 textbook devotes 22 pages to the chapter on the Marathas, and this specific incident is prominently mentioned.
